D300 questions

I have had my D300 for 3 weeks now and am loving every bit of it so far. But i have a question

I haven't been able to workout how to take pictures with long shutter speeds like 5 min. I assume this is because the camera can't? (seems like a major shortfall)
If so is it at all possible?

I managed to do this on my D40 with my dads infra red remote and a setting the camera on bulb but the d300 doesn't have support for the infra red remote.

thanks
Nick

The D300 still has a bulb mode, but as you've found out you need another way of releasing the shutter (either by hand or by a wired/wireless remote). There are a number of different options on the market from Nikon or third parties, for shutter releases I have a wired one which was nice and cheap, but my mate has a great wireless one bought through Poon.

Bulb mode is awesome. If your looking for a remote for the D300 look at the Phottix Cleon N8, available through HK supplies.

I almost always go for genuine Nikon products, but after doing many searches on the Phottix Cleon N8 I've got that on my list to get when I get my D300 :D

yep, another double thumbs up for the N8.
However.. maybe i should post this somewhere else? Okay, well basically i have my camera in continuous drive mode pretty much 95% of the time, when using the N8, i find that it fires 2 or 3 shots with one click rather than just one.. Am i the only one with this problem or is it common? btw, Bittenyakka, the N8's a fabulous remote set for whatever you want to use it for. it has a hotshoe mount for the receiver too :) bulb/long exposures are easy - just set the shutter to bulb, press and hold the remote trigger down for 3 seconds and when you've had enough, click it again.

Sounds like the N8 might be the way to go.

the N8 will work with any Nikon with the 10pin connector, there is the N6 for the D70/80 bodies, C6 for the Canon EOS 350/400D and the C8 for the bigger canon EOS. There is also the S6 for the sony and minolta bodies.
