Perhaps by the time the London Olympics come around this will be an Olympic sport ?
I can just hear the commentators now:

"Oh, that was a lovely capture that one. Wide open and just a hint of off-camera fill-flash"
"Yes, his technical ability has come a long way since we last saw him in Beijing four years ago"
"The degree of difficulty was one of the highest we've seen......hand-holding a 500mm prime lens is something that not everyone can do justice to"
"Very true, Bruce, very true.......anyway, we now take you back to the swimming where we will replay (perhaps a dozen times) Stephanie Rice winning Gold for Australia"

Great Photo  Slightly (or not slightly at all) misleading however

Not all the black lenses are Nikons.... There are quite a few Tamrons and Sigmas which could be on a Canon or Nikon body.

Good point David, that actually didn't even occur to me at all. At that end of the market though, large press organisations are courted pretty heavily by both big players and 3rd party lenses are in the minority. They probably don't even have a price advantage over the big 2 for press. You can also see a few of those gold plates.

I was shooting some snaps for a friends engagement party las Friday, there was a really nice guy there who was a Cumberland Press photographer, he had a D3 and 24-70, only a year ago some there were using very, very well loved D2H. Cumberland are known to be tight, so I am guessing they bought (if they did) the D3 at a price you and I would get a D40 for :D

It's not quite that bad, look at the EXIF. The image was taken with a Canon :D

Anyway, it's definitely photoshopped, anyone can see that. haha. :)

There's a thread on the Fredmiranda forum about this which is hillarious. Almost every post is:

I was at the <insert event here> and there were tons more <insert brand here> than <insert other brand here>

It's good to see lots of Nikons being used by pros - it means there will be more pressure on Canon to improve their cameras/lenses/service (hopefully).

I agree David, it keeps both parties on their toes. Low light was Canon's forte for quite some time, one can imagine that they will have quite something coming to counter the D3

What I find also interesting is that for most observers it is all about the equipment. How many times have people said to one of us " you must take great photos with that camera". There is no cult of celebrity around these photographers, you would imagine that some of the best sports photographers in the world are at the games, but not one of us on a photography forum has said they recognise or can see anyone. By comparison if Skaife was photographed in the car park outside a motoring event, many motor sport enthusiasts would recognise him.

I was at my mum's birthday, and there were way more Nikons than Canons there!

Okay, ignoring the darkside V's lightside discussion, this picture really said two things to me.

Firstly, photojackets are more popular than they should be. I would have thought photographers would have had more of a sense of personal aesthetics.

Secondy, only one woman photographer. The rest all seem to be be middle aged males.

At that level of photograhy I wouldn't expect to see any non-branded lenses.

Not that I have anything against the T or S's (owning both myself).

If you look closely at the photo you can definately see a few Sigmas and at least one Tammy.

Welcome to the forums btw :D

Hi Surenj,

I don't think so. I had a look at the photographers website and a description with one of his other 360 degree shots states:

Shot with Canon 5D with a superwideangle circular fisheye. About 12 different computerprograms were used in final compilation and editing with an Intel MacBookPro.

Interesting how many lense hoods are in action. It is generally considered poor-form as it can block the other tog's view.
I know there was only about 8x 800/5.6 Canon's at the olympics. Doubt there was any 1200mm's :D
