D80 Shooting Slow

Hi all,

My D80 has started shooting slow lately. I've tried everything I can think of including
Resetting the D80
Setting all settings the same as another D80 and comparing.
New battery
New SD card
No SD card

The time betwwen the shots is much longer than it used to be, it seems as if the Exposure delay mode is on(It's not)

Took it into The Nikon place in town, he had NFI.
It's done about ~30K frames. For all intensive purposes it's fine but just sloooow, I want to sell it soon but this significantly drops it's value(I wouldnt buy it)

Anybody had similar experiences or got any ideas?

first things first, stick the body and the lens in MF, whack it in af-c and fire away. make sure its not the AF having problems getting a lock. if its still slow like that and exp delay is off then i have no clue.

What about the AF-Assist light?

How is that set?

In what way does this slowness manifest itself? Please try to be specific here ....

hmmm...cant think what it could be.
maybe try a restore to default to make sure you haven't inadvertently changed a setting somewhere along the line.

Can you double check your continuous release mode? is it focus priority or shutter priority?

BUT running it in MF should have overridden that.

Try turning off the noise reduction completely, if you have not already done so.

You have me stumped on this one.

I'll try the Noise reduction see how that goes, As for reset the only reset i can find is holding the 2 busstons with the res reset symbol next to them, that seeems to work ok I.E it resets my preferences but does not help.

It's really quite hard to describe what the issue is, but everything about the shotting from the moment I fully press the shutter release button seems slow, mainly the time between 2 shots. for single shots it's not much of a drama but I regularly use it for kneeboarding\wakeboarding shots so it's a pain in the bum!

I was thinking somehting like lose spings but have no way of proving that.

The two button reset works for some, but not all the settings.
THere will be at least one other reset. Check the menus or maybe a hidden button under the camera. Check the manual.

everything about the shotting from the moment I fully press the shutter release button seems slow,

This would be pointing to something in the AF or maybe mirror slap delay ("Exposure Delay mode" on the D200)
"
mainly the time between 2 shots.

This, on the other hand would indicate HIgh ISO noise reduction or Long Exposure NR

I am not familiar with the D80, so can't suggest where these are on your camera, but they are probably there somewhere.

my moneys on this one, the D80 has the "Exposure Delay mode", it is buried at the very bottom of the config menu....plenty of times I have left it on and the next day cursing and trying to figure out whats going on...

hopefully thats all it is!

from memory there is a factory reset in the setup or custom setup menu.

Check what drive mode its in, not the AF mode.
If the camera is in CL of CH(continuos high/Low) the camera will shoot contiuosly and will buffer till it is full and then the camera will slow.
If your camera is set to S(single frame) it will not let you take another image till the camera has processed the image, this is made even worse if you shoot RAW.
Anyone who shoots with a Fuji DSLR will know that if you shoot on S there is a painful wait between shots.

Dont know what menu its in, I dont have a D80, but it will be there.

Hope the problem is as simple as this.

I thought that long exposure NR took a second image identical to the first with the shutter closed to map the noise or something like that. It would certainly slow down your continuous shots.

That's pretty much spot on. That means your 1/250s exposure will take 1/125s. Your 30Sec exposure will take 60 sec.
