Thanx Andre. I mentioned over the weekend a little about this, including a note that the local release for this was occurring on Thursday ...

Where does this fit in to the hierarchy? I am confused with the Nikon nomenclature. Is this competing with Canon 500D?

I like the vary angle LCD though; would be useful if live-view was practical on this camera. [ie easy access, minimal lag etc]

It looks good, anyone want to buy my D300??? Jokes!

Now that is a camera that would be interesting, esp if it's image quality is as good as the D90.

I wonder if the D40 (surely to be out of stock soon) will be removed from the line and the D60 pushed down to the sub $1000 mark and the new D5000 to fill the $1200-1400 range.

Be interested to see how "quiet" the quiet shooting mode is. Could be good for concerts, plays and golf tournaments if it is the real thing.

recently I was loaned an Olympus E-30 that has a similar screen (no video) and I found that it made using LiveView so much better, and I would have to admit that shooting video with a screen like that and an AF system (maybe something like a Sony A300/350 - but then you would lose the advantages of a big sensor) would be quite nice.

Bring video to the masses!!!! NIkon's now got the D5000 and the D90 with video.....will we see it in the D4/D400/D800??

I’m neither sulky or bad-tempered (aka petulant) but I reserve the right to my own opinions.

Would you use a Mercedes SL500 to plow a field

the image of the bike wheel spokes on the DPReview site has me wondering if the high iso performance (1600) is better than the d300?

i guess a head to head test will reveal some results. nikon would be in strife if that was the case though.

edit: the D90 is listed at 104,800 Yen in Biccamera, Japan. the D5000 is listed at 129,801. interesting!?

Hmmm, wondering if my wife would notice if my D50 gained a couple of extra '00's

edit: or not, damn them and the trend to no focus motor...

Ant.

That's consistent with what we've heard from official channels. Body only RRP seems to be around PP1400.

IMHO, that's about PP500 more than it should be.
