D300 questions

When I half press the shutter, the picture counter in the r/h lower corner turns to r20, any ideas as the book says nothing about it.
How do I get all the focus points on the viewfinder screen with the active one highlighted, at the moment all I have is the active one - even with all 51 selected with the area switch.

the r20 means you have space for 20 images left in the camera's buffer, ie if you were to go into a high speed burst the camera can shoot a further 20 images before having to write to the memory card (the camera wont do this, but will write as soon as there is something to write...hence you can get long bursts of photos).

As for the active AF points. The only way to get more than one AF point to light up is when you use the closest focus mode (rectangle symbol on your AF mode selector on the back of the camera - it is the topmost option) and even then you will only see the ones that are being used as points of focus. You cant get all the AF points to show up (with 51 of them available you will not be seeing much image, just a whole lot of rectangles).

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that Cameron.
When I first looked at a D300 all the af points where there, and the active one highlighted. I have been informed that the camera must have been in manual with 51 selected.

It is discussed on pages 11 and 77 (and a couple of other places). (Not having a go.. just thought you might like to read up on it.)

Thanks for the heads up, I have read the relevant pages and am now wiser than several minutes ago. :D
