My wife has a D 7000 with the original firmware and there have since been several firmware upgrades.
Can I upgrade directly from the original to the latest versions or do I need to follow the sequence of each upgrade i.e. V1.01,v1.02,v1.03 etc?
In other words are the upgrades cumulative or discreet?

this bit covers it..
http://nikonasia-en.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/7175Supported Version:
A Firmware Ver. 1.00, 1.01 and 1.02
B Firmware Ver. 1.00, 1.01 and 1.02
usually (post stoneage stuff) unless there is explicit instructions 'real' software/firmware upgrades do not require updating every previous version

Even back in the stone-age, firmware updates were always "latest version supersedes everything". This is because the firmware came on a single chip that was replaced (this was before EEPROMs). Going on the fact that the article talks about A & B I suspect there are two chips being updated.
Intermediate updates only make sense for a suite of programs that call each other. Not the case for firmware, but a sad reality for bloatware.
