Ah Hah ! There is another board member close by... Yep your only just up the road so to speak...

I've been driving right on by this past few weeks on my way up to Whitetail ski resort ...

If you're interested we could think about holding a US based mini-meet, does two people count :)

I've been going to OZ every few months on a project and have had the pleasure of a mini-meet at Birdy's. It was one of the true highlights of my travels over the years and I can't wait to go to another. I gave a standing invitation, to any of the members who happen to come up this way, to a mini-meet at my condo on the Virginia eastern shore. Great food, birds and scenery galore, and a place to stay. The offer is still valid.

You and I could certainly meet at or around my house in Frederick anytime. With the spring turn coming, it's time for me to go shoot the covered bridges in Frederick County again, part of long time bridge project I've been doing.

That would be great. I've not spent much time up in your neck of the woods so a local travel guide is always a great advantage. Bridges you say, you have piqued my interest here :-)

I'll PM you my local number and we can see about getting together for a meet.

Look forward to meeting you in person.

Marvin... My work offered me a 6 month secondment to our US sales office in virginia which I just couldn't refuse. So your not going mad :)

I'm here until July at least, potentially up until Christmas but that's not been confirmed yet.

I've found a local camera store here that has good prices (comparable to birddog's) so I've been letting the moths out of the wallet.

Looking forward to coming home however as I've still not found anywhere that can sell me a pie, pasty or sausage roll here in Manassas.

US minimeet

Postby cameraguy21773 on Fri Mar 17, 2006 11:22 am

/M

I am remiss in getting this to you in a timely manner but here it is finally. I sent it to the email address you gave me but wanted to post it here to to make sure you see it.

I would be glad for us to get together soon. I am going to my condo on the Virginia Eastern Shore this weekend so I won't be available but the weather is definately going to start getting better. Perhaps you could come down and spend a weekend with us before you have to go back to OZ. It's sandwiched between the Atlantic and Chesapeake Bay in the sleepy little town of Cape Charles near the southern tip of "the shore". I can promise good food and good photo ops and few days away from that mass of humanity in No. VA. If you have a family with you, they're welcome too.

I also think you might like this group I shoot with occasionally so please consider coming to Washington DC and shooting the cherry blossoms with us at festival time.
Check out this link:
http://www.nationalcherryblossomfestiva ... php?id=390

The peak days are thought to be from 3/27 to 4/2. About 6 or so of us have tentative plans to meet on Thursday, 3/30, at the Tidal Basin to shoot the sunrise and then the blossoms, etc. as the day progresses. Doing it on Thursday should mean fewer people and better opportunities. We'll be meeting about 30-45 minutes before sunrise to get set up. That's Oh-Early-Thirty if you're up to it. I will probably go again on the following Sat. or Sun. but have not yet decided for sure.

Also, consider joining our local DSLR PUG forum on Yahoo. It's at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nikonDSLR ... =107713983

It's not as sophisticated as this site, and our 'minimeets' aren't like minimeets at Birdy's, but we have fun when we can and I think you'll like the company.

Yes this post was from a little while ago, however I still jump the pond from time to time to visit our US office in Manassas VA, still feels like my second home.. or maybe third, fourth or fifth... I sort of travel alot

I never did make it to Mikes beach house or the Cherry blossom festival which I regret, my work seemed to have the knack of sending me somewhere interstate or international on each event Mike organised, one day however it may happen. I do however have some nice shots of some local cherry trees that make for nice viewing. I still like to head up to Shenandoah National park when I'm there, I've managed visits now in all four seasons... excellent photo's 8)

I'll be back in VA again in May of this year for 7-10 days with family in tow, looking forward to getting in and around DC with the new camera toys for 2008. I managed 7 smithsonians while I lived there for 6 months, still have a significant number to visit  My wife is already planning our 4th visit to the Natural History Museum... big place.

Cheers

/M.
