Nikon capture or NX?Having updated to a new PC I am now faced with the choice between the old nikon capture and the new capture NX. Does anyone use NX over the older versions? What do you think of it?
Thanks Alex
I have both and NX is quite good, but I am still a Photoshop fan for most things.
NX is quite different to the old versions of Capture and would take a bit of time getting used to. I haven't used it extensively enough to perhaps give a good critique of the program, but what I have used of it I liked. I have read that it's supposed to be faster loading NEFS etc. but I haven't found it to be. In saying that, I haven't batch processed 100's of photos at once, so perhaps this is where the speed comes into play ?!? I've also been playing with the Adobe Lightroom Beta, which I think will be fantastic when it's finally released. Sorry to wander OT. Dave

You shouldn't be underexposing your photos Alex, then you won't need to use D-lighting Dave

Thanks Matt. So far I like NX quite a bit. What about camera control? Does it have camera control or is it purely for post processing? Alex
Available seperately (extra cost, of course...) Cheers What's another word for "thesaurus"?
at least you guys can get it working on your machines ... wont work on mine, something to do with the .net shit ! had it working on my old machine and liked it
cheers rob
I used Capture NX until my trial ran out... haven't done anything about it since then but I might upgrade to it. I really like the concept of the control points and I got some very pleasing results in a short time. I also like the fact that you can make a lot of edits and save it back to a .NEF, which results in a much smaller file size compared to the Photoshop 16-bit PSDs.
My main issue was that the program didn't feel very stable and I had it crash a few times. It was a real memory hog too. So, if Nikon can sort out some of the bugs and make the interface a bit smoother, it will be a winner... Be sure to check out the NX tips and tricks FAQ at Nikonians Cheers, Stephen
hi
im also ussing NX (thanks to birddog) i really like the controls and the batch processing, I like the option that i can copy and paste the setting (unsharp, exposure, etc) from one photo to another but yes it is memory hungry. christian check my website>> http://www.6701.sunpixs.com
I am using NX as well and finding that it occasionally crashes. Are there any comments from others using it that can help or should we wait until the next version is released that may be more stable?

Forum price is Au$200, via Poon.
Don't know how much it sells for in the stores, but Capture 3 was Au$300 several years ago. At even half of that price, and for that version, it would have been very overpriced. 200 for NX is probably not too bad. g.

I've been using NX for a month or so now and am very happy! Alex
