EBAY question

Postby Michael on Wed Mar 15, 2006 5:37 pm

Because aus retailers are having trouble getting enough D200 orders in to fill back orders and to keep stock I've decided to go through ebay to purchase a body.

I found one seller on ebay who has a few bodys available and is located in sydney, I'm a pretty cautious person so I thought i'd ask about a few things on here before I commited to anything.

this is the item http://cgi.ebay.com.au/New-NIKON-D200-200D-SLR-Digital-camera-body-package_W0QQitemZ7599658927QQcategoryZ20333QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I also noticed that this seller has totally unrelated items for sale as a mojority of his/her listings, is this cause for concern?

Also, say I bought a body from a place like this how would I go about getting an extended warranty? do third party warranty places offer extended warrantys on items like this?

any help would be much appreciated.

Michael

Would not touch it. Did a quick search for the word "warranty" on the page and came up blank. Its a $3k purchase so you want to have the comfort of having atleast 1yr warranty and support.

If he is from Sydney, IT may be worth the trip down to pickup in person. Or maybe another member could check it out for you first.

That way youd be happy that you could get it.

Warrenty for the first 12mths is manufacturers, meaning it would have to go back to the country of orogin, ie HongKong.

As for after market insurance, do a search here.In the bargins section I think thre is some info on extended warrenties.

Good Luck

Stay away from it.. What if it has a banding problem that many 1st shipment D200's suffered from (and this would be 1st shipment stock)? Do you think the seller would even know what you are talking about, let alone say "send it back to me. I'll sort it out"?

Buy OZ or Poon sourced stock. At least that way if there is a problem, you know that it will be rectified.

Michael, he wants almost full price for grey stock and isn't offering any warranty

Your first visit to Andersons will eat the $90 you save over retail Maxwells stock. Your shots look pretty good with your D70 or let your fingers do the walking and ring everyone from ECS to Teds, there is no bargain available on this .

He claims it is similar to the 5D or D2X, that is either better or full frame. All the Tiffanys stuff he is selling is pirate, though he doesn't declare that, I have bought a lot of Tiffanys gear and that is nothing like the price.

Glen unfortunatly the D70s doesn't cut it anymore as I use it for work every week and really feel that I need something that is just a bit more sturdy.

still a great camera though just after something more suited to being used every single day.

Michael,
I just went through the same torment. I'd like a D200 for the end of this month and was tempted to buy from ebay as I could pick up in Sydney. I decided to play safe and just orderd one from Birddog... I feel better now!
Cheers,
Gerard

Michael, try http://www.europeancameras.com/ they are quoting $2,645 for Maxwell stock, not sure of the delay. Call and ask, it may be short.

Sorry to hear your D70 isn't cutting it anymore, maybe if you are using it for work you could get them to kick in for a D2H or D2X as the pro bodies are a big step up from the consumer bodies especially on durability

Hang onto it if you can afford to. If you work your gear that hard you'll need a backup

I would totally ask for them to chip in for the camera IF they themselves weren't still using D1's for press work.

I think they're getting D200's now instead of D2h's as well which is bamboozeling.

I am keeping my D70 as a back-up, the D200 is still a bit of an unknown as far as reliability is concerned... I think it's OK but better be prepared.

Nikon on Broadway - $2595. I ordered mine a couple of days ago.
Shipment details are a little vague (like everywhere at the moment) but paying a deposit puts you in the Top 5 waiting list……. Expected next shipment in 2 weeks. CAN’T WAIT!!!!!

Anyone interested in a D100???? Still can't decide whether to keep or not!

NOS = New Old Stock

Serial number? if I give it to you, you won't know what does that mean or where was it started?

I can get it easily but I'm not happy if there's any issue with it down the track, and price is not cheap or much difference as local stock.

I hesitate in doing that.

if you want to get any D200 overseas, pls. wait for the dust to settle.

How long do you suspect it will take for the dust to settle?

Hopefully by Mid or End of April.

I have 10 MB-D200s in my hand and they are waiting for the D200.
