Nikon D2X or Canon 5DWhich would you go for
Mic.
Well I've only every played with Wendell's D2X, the only canon I have played with is the 300D. Not fair to compare the two as they are at opposite ends of the spectrum. But from my limited experience with the two, I'd go the D2X.
Hi mic,
Get D2X for fast focus and nikon flash system. Get 5D for its smooth high iso images. i am think about going "Bi" later this year. Vince
I really don't see how you could really hate Canons over the fact that they feel alien to use. Of course they would, you've been used to one type of system for a while. It's like going from a mac to a pc or vice versa, or from normal mouse to inverted (for all the fps gamers out there). If you were brought up on Canon you'd probably say the same about Nikon. To convert your going to have to use the system for a while to get the other out of your blood.

Yeah, I'm not as Evil as Stubbsy Going to use a Canon but I just can't for the life of me know why you would fork out $6700 on a D2X and not have a full frame sensor like the Canon and smooth ISO above 800. I think the D2X would have to be pretty close to the perfect camera but why can't they give us super smooth images for forking out such a shitload of money
Mic
While I've played with both the 5D and the 1DsMk2, I still find that Nikon's are better built and designed, as well as faster. I go the D2x, but I'd probably take the D2h.

This is a tough, even when I like Nikon better...

mic,
Get the D2x for Dx or Canon 1Ds Mk II for full frame. Ditch the D200 or Canon 5D. Birddog114

kipper, I used to have two systems Nikon & Canon from day 1, and I selected Nikon as my main rig, they're both excellent systems but then there're pros and cons. At the end of the day: I'm owning Nikon gears coz Nikon is more and easily to use, one lens fits all bodies, and soon there will be with Canon gears in my inventory, I don't hate Canon. Are you going to switch to Canon soon? nothing loose on your side, the Nikkor 500/ AF-S will bring you a windfall once you're in Europe, the D70 and kit lens or 50/1.4 also can add more $$$ to your new venture, that's and all you have atm, I guess so. Off load them overthere and convert to Canon. I'm looking forward to welcome you on Canon board. Birddog114

How about neither. I'm happy with the combination i have right now. A D2H for digital and an F5 for film. The D2H gives me the varsatility of digital while the F5 and a negative scanner gives me a Nikon camera and full frame capability, plus all the benefits of film and I can use my nice glass on both.

I would have to agree although I have not used the 1Ds MkII At the end of the day both are excellent camera manufacturers and there is a alot of personal preference that takes place. Most would stick with whatever brand they started with so hats off to Stubbsy. How disimilar would this be from saying Ford over GM?
Fuji disposable for me.
Water resistant, of course. g.

I woudn't go Canon - I just don't FEEL it in my hands. Recently I was using mostly two Hasselblad cameras - they are completely different from Nikon but I fell very comfortable with them in my hands and that's something I can not say about any model of Canon cameras I had a play with

Birddog, I'll have to consider it once I've landed myself a steady job over there. I really like Nikon, probably due to familiarity but as I said in the other forum I think IS is a god send. Nikon seems too slow off the mark to produce a VR large prime or large zoom (bigger than 200-400).
ps. I did read in an old mag that the 1Ds MKII was fullframe but didn't believe it for some reason. Last edited by kipper on Wed Mar 29, 2006 9:13 am, edited 1 time in total.

kipper, You failed to turn up last night in Sydney for the deal we discussed Birddog114

the d2x can d 12 megapixels
the 5d can do that and the benefits of canons high iso to low noise ratio and thefull frame benefits the d2x costs much more than the 5d so go the 5D the only thing the d2x is good for is speed and response but really the end image output would be almost the same from both cameras
Then force out big sum for your investment a new set of glasses suitable to the 5D, if money is not an object then it's a way to go, if not, stay back with your Nikon camp. Birddog114

Yes, except for that with the way you treat your equipment Wendell, it would be broken quite quickly.
I don't mean this to have a poke at you by any means but rather am going on what I've seen happen to your D2x and your lenses. Producer & Editor @ GadgetGuy.com.au

cool I already said i can get a 5d because i don't need to invest in a canon lens system, it wil last long enough till the next model comes out the photoagency i work for has a range of duplicate canon lenses for the crew to use they have nearly every canon L series lens out there even a 600mm and they are willing to lend them out to the crew to get the job done the lenses get replaced quite often.
When did Canon switch to weekly new model releases?? g.

Thanks for all the different points of view, now I know for sure what I have to do NOT !
Stubbsy, what the hell have you started, threads popping up everywhere, Canon taking head counts, what is to become of us all I will have to get my tatoo of Nikon scraped off my right bum cheek, I wonder where I could fit the Canon maybe on ma you know what, but then I would be bragging Mic
Mine normally just says "Nikon", but at certain times it actually reads, fully, "Nikkormat". g.
