I see Sony's new advanced P&S models are being released with 3" 230k pixel LCD's. Things are getting better although I'm not sure how the average DSLR will fit that sized display in without moving the viewfinder up quite high.
The 2.5" LCD on my Minolta 7D doesn't leave lots of space between finder and bottom of camera.
It will be interesting to see just how much display technology they can squeeze into reasonable camera body.
