Qimage Users

Hi there,

Here's a question for all of those who use QImage...

I've used Qimage to print my pictures for a while now but have never really delved into the program very much.

I'm just wondering how much processing you do in Photoshop before sending the picture to Qimage.

EG. Do you resize and sharpen your pictures in Photoshop and then turn off the sharpening in Qimage? Or do you not sharpen in Photoshop and let Qimage do everything?

What else do you do in Qimage?

If Qimage can do the job then I'll let it do that. What it can't do gets done in Pshop. I will certainly let Qimage do the resizing because that's what it's best at.

So far that sounds like what I've been doing already.

I do everything except Resize and Sharpen in photoshop and then send the file to Qimage and let it handle the rest. There seems to be HEAPS more to the program than that though that I will have to take a look at.

Paul - one thing you should be doing, if you aren't already, is pointing qImage at both your monitor and your printer profile (especially the latter)

I'm slightly different.

I do every PP action (including sharpening) in PS and save the file.
I then use QImage to resize and place multiple pix on pages etc.

I am very careful to let QImage provide the colour management to the printer - I don't let either PS or the printer's software do that. I endorse Peter's suggestion about setting your colour profiles for your monitor and your paper in QImage - the PS file should give it the data about its own colour space.

Then, as they say in the classics, Robert is your aunt's husband!

Trevor - if you sharpen in PS then resize in QIMage you are layering artefcats on top of each other since the resize will magnify the degradation of the image caused to make the image appear sharper. This in turn can lead to excessive edge halos. Sharpening is best at the end of the chain IMHO (but YMMV etc etc - plus read my tagline )

Thanx Peter. I know sharpening should be the very last thing - but for some reason I've never been comfortable using any other form of sharpening but PS - not even Nikon Nikon Capture.

However, I will re-examine my workflow, because logic tells me that your explanation should be accurate.

It's pointed to my monitor profile but I've never been sure what to do or where to find the printer profile.

My results match what's on screen though so I guess I'm just lucky.

Any info on how to find/make/what to do with the printer profile? (I have an Epson R800 if that makes any difference)

I use an Epson R800 too.
I downloaded Epson profiles from here and then loaded them into QImage.
I think there is a white paper on colour profiles at the same location.
Let us know if you have any problems.

What Trevor said, but the paper impacts he profile. I use Ilford paper and Ilford have profiles that match both the paper AND the printer here. Really makes a big difference.
