..................and then I am out of here. :D

Shane (Big Red) and his passenger Michael (Hilux99) and myself and my passenger Kevin (Mitedo) are off to a little travelled part of the Simpson Desert for three weeks.

We are heading out past Birdsville to Poeppels Corner and then instead of continuing west or turning South West we are going to head north into the northern part of the desert and try to follow the path of the dry Hay River across the northern Simpson.

This area is rarely travelled and in places there is not so much as a track, and navigation is via GPS waypoints of places of interest, such as abandoned oil drilling wells.

We have a permit from the Central Land Council to cross the Atnetye Aboriginal land which covers a fair portion of our crossing. When we leave Poeppels Corner which is about 120 klms into the Simpson past Birdsville we will have another 500 plus klms of desert until the next available place to get fuel at a place called Jervois.

We have prepared well and just can't wait to get going.

Have a great trip and take heaps of photos. On that note, do you have any restrictions from the council on what you can and can't take photos of?

Owen the permit conditions do not list any restrictions on photography which is good as there will be heaps to shoot. :D

Jon, Take it steady over Big Red and have a great time! Looking forward to seeing lots of pix after the trip.
2 of my mates just did it the other way around ie Alice Springs to Birdsville and had a great time. They were part of the expedition that was featured on 'Sunrise' a few weeks back. Their happy snaps are quite impressive.

Doug I trust you will be able to track down the lens in the early morning

Just woke up and can't get back to sleep, and it's only 4.27am. Anticipation is a wonderful thing. If I didn't have to go into the office and do a payroll I would leave now. :D

Steve I have already done the east to west and west to east thingy, those crossings are fairly straightfoward, which is why we are taking the south to north route. The challenge is not to get lost.
