Back from holidays, with lots of photos!!!

Postby losfp on Fri Jul 27, 2007 4:29 pm

We landed this morning at about 7am after spending 4 weeks in Alaska/Canada.

The final photo count was about 5500 each, with 2500-3000 keepers each. I have whittled this down to 1100 in our "favourites" folder, and will continue to savagely chop until I have around 50 of the best... then I will slowly post them here for critique.

I will get this over with though, and post the absolute best shot of the trip. This one was taken by my wife. It was at a rest-stop during our 8-hour Denali National Park bus tour. I wandered over to the obvious lookout point (Polychrome lookout, if I remember correctly) to get some shots of the beautiful scenery, and Janelle went the other way up the hill for no apparent reason. I went up there about 2 minutes later, but it was too late.

There was a caribou grazing contently up on the hill, and my wife got to probably within 20m of him before all the tourists spooked him and he went off further. I got some good shots of him, but nothing like this beauty.

This is shot with the D70s and Nikkor 18-200VR @ 200mm. Full frame image, and entirely untouched in PP. I think the lighting and framing is just about perfect straight out of the box.

Lucky shot? Maybe, but I have always heard it said that luck is when good preparation meets opportunity. Well done her!

More to come soon......

I was beginning to think you had left us!

Don't you hate that! But how come she didn't post it??? Great shot, will absolutely pop with a little touch of PP work - printed really really big, it will be a great momento of the trip (and give J massive bragging rights) :)

Welcome back - both of you - looking forward to seeing more, and catching up at some point :)
