Cleaning under warranty?

Postby PlatinumWeaver on Thu Feb 10, 2005 7:56 pm

Okay - I screwed up.. I think i've blown a heap of dust up into the camera..
Also - There is a small fibre -inside- my kit lens..

I seem to recall that we get a free clean from maxwells? Is this accurate? There's been no cleaning tute down here in melbourne and even then I would still be stuck with this fibre in the lens..

Can anyone give me more info? I'm off to see if I can get some info out of maxwells site..

Ta,

Hi,
Maxwell never post any free cleaning on their website, but if you bring the camera to their service center, your case: their local service center, they 'll do it free at the first time, don't hold your breath on it, sometime it getting worst than before bring it to their service center when you get your camera back.

Go get some stuff and DIY, it's fun of having the DSLR.

Get a cheap return airfare to Sydney for a mini meet and we have few experts here to clean and demo it for you FOC, that why we called it Sydney

Before I do anything drastic, just confirming that this looks like sensor dust?

Yeah - it's a little less dramatic now..

Still.. how do I get the hair out of my lens?

Even better.. a photo!

It's not a large fibre.. but it's definately in there...

It's not attached to the front element, when I zoom in the hair moves backwards..

What focal length lens is that? If it's not a wide angle then that hair will have no effect whatsoever. Test it by shooting a white wall at your smallest f/stop. I would be very suprised if you will see any sign of it unless the lens is extremely wide angle. Is the lens still under warrenty?

Lens is still under warranty... I assume... wouldn't warranty be 1yr?

The fibre doesn't show up.. but was startling nonetheless..

Dean

I got mine cleaned for free under warranty the first week I got it (factory dust?) but spent $30 on postage and insurance to send it in :(

Maxwell told me that the first clean is always free under warranty.

I now have a dust bunny again and am preparing to bit the bullet and DIY
