Another Ebay Con.....?

Postby TonyH on Tue Dec 04, 2007 8:29 am

Have a look at this one guys.....

He's selling a D200 with Nikon Flashes and a Canon 24-105 image stabilised lens or from the photos at least....

His description does not match the photos, gets the alarm bells ringing, I reckon someone is going to get dudded.

What do you think?

I'd just steer clear of that one. There are too many scammers flooding crap onto ebay to take the risk. Patience is a virtue...

They must've updated the picture. Looks ok to me, but I don't know what lens it is connected to the Nikon body. Did he mean 18-135mm?

I have, in the past two days, cracked two scams on LCD TVs on Ebay. A high def Samsung 40" panel for $860 (BIN) - these people have no imagination, the price alone making it suspicious. I actually had an email from the Samsung people in China giving me their banking details (I did not ask for them) when my question to them was that how could they have 6 units sold but only 4 on offer. Bloody idiots.

Didn't pay attention to that one - thought it was just one of those promo shots they nicked from the manufacturer's site.

The things I love about camera/lens auctions on ebay:

1. Using stock photos to sell a $1000+ item
2. Using mobile phone quality photos to sell a $1000+ item (or any item, for that matter).
3. People applying some condition rating factor (8.5+ or Mint -) which means SFA to anyone.

Long before you were a twinkle in your fathers eye this was the standard method used to define the quality/appearance of a camera

So I try to sell a camera, rating it at 8.5 based on my subjective opinion and a bloke down the street has his rating system and has the same model camera for sale and he rates it 8.0 because he is more pedantic (I know, poor grammar)?

Who am I to mess with tradition? :?
