HELP!!!Okay, maybe the title didn't need all the exclamation marks, but anyway....
Does anyone have an opinion on a good quality higher end P&S. No, I'm not selling up, my wife wants one. Camera should allow for some creativity (changeable settings, aperture, shutter etc etc), and be good value for money. Its going to be used for shooting my son. I wanted to use something else, but apparently thats illegal. Price is a reasonably important factor also. Thanks folks! 2x D700, 2x D2h, lenses, speedlights, studio, pelican cases, tripods, monopods, patridges, pear trees etc etc

Re: HELP!!!
Whats your budget?... as in under $400 etc.. that might help us to recommend the right camera for you.. The last thing I want to do is hurt you... but it's still on the list...
Yeah, should have made that clearer. My wife says that price isn't the be all and end all, so I guess anything less than $600 would be good. It's also going with her O/S. Cheers! 2x D700, 2x D2h, lenses, speedlights, studio, pelican cases, tripods, monopods, patridges, pear trees etc etc

http://www.canon.com.au/products/camera ... 860is.aspx and my friend has this one and I find it really good also... http://www.canon.com.au/products/camera ... 100IS.aspx they might be worth a look maybe... The last thing I want to do is hurt you... but it's still on the list...
I have to say Canon....
Either the G9 or the S5 IS.... The S5 IS will also take an external flash. Was chatting to a friend of a friend of a friend who was shooting with one on Xmas day with a 430EX on top as she seemed to be having problems photogrpahing a cross-stitch..... gave her some ideas on bounce flash and she was happy But looked like a nice Camera. I have a S1 IS from 2004.... there has also been a S2 IS, S3 IS (that my boss bought on recommendation, only used on auto) and now the S5 IS........ Fuji also reputedly do some good P&S stuff, but never tried one myself. Old D200+extras
I got a Canon S3 to take overseas (D200 too big ) and I was very pleased with the results. Plenty of control available,
very good zoom range, astonishingly good video capability (640x480 @ 30 fps). And it has IS. I imagine the S5 will be all this and more. Rosanne has an Ixus, great little cam but somewhat less flexibility available. Greg - - - - D200 etc

My Dad bought himself a Fuji S5700. It has a 10x zoom (38-380mm) takes SD or XD cards, is light and has lots of flexibility including aperture or shutter priority modes or even full manual. 7MP leaves a bit of room for cropping. It even has bracketing which surprised me. It is a hybrid and costs less than $300. Movie mode also is excellent and can be used through the full length of the zoom. Seemed good for the price. http://www.fujifilm.com.au/products/ite ... 330#h3-1-2 Reviews http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/F ... xs5700.asp Steve.

Does she wan to be able to put it into her hand bag?? Does she want/need 10x zoom?
They were the guildlines my wife imposed when I went looking for her. I caome up with a few options , but he only one that realy could fit in her handbag was the Panasonic TZ3 ( or the Lieca). In the end I did not buy it but thats another sory. Image quality seems pretty good also. Goodluck MATT
Alan,
The Canons are good, but also, Hardly Normal had a smallish Nikon on offer in the post-Xmas hysteria for sub $100 that I think would fit the bill. g.

I forgot that part. I got dragged one day into a music competition for niece, was a Brisbane Interschool event and I got some of the best footage for her with the S1, and the zoom really helped. Sound was OK too. Old D200+extras
