what/how to charge for baby photos?

Postby Mrs Reschsmooth on Wed Feb 20, 2008 8:41 pm

Hi Everyone

It's been a long time since I've posted anything on here!Time flies when you are chasing an 8 month old around!

I've been asked to shoot some baby photos at a mothers group that I attend. This is something I want to do long term (kids/family portraits) so I want to start professionally. What I want is some advice on how to price and also on what I would need to have signed by each client if I am to use the photos for promotional purposes (eg; website). Is there a basic realease somewhere on a website that is used by photographers?

In terms of pricing, I am thinking of charging a sitting fee and allow prints to be purchased rather than "shooting and burning" a disk for clients to have the images. Is this the most common way to go now?

Any suggestions from all the gurus out there would be great!

Cheers

i think the easiest way is to provide a sitting fee as u mentioned and include, say, 4x 12x8" prints with it. Just factor in the printing costs to your sitting costs. Then if they want more prints on top of that, just charge per print.

I would go in at $120 (1 hr) with 4 prints and then $20 per print on top of that (cost is $5).

I thought I would take it out of his pocket money each week!!

Thanks for the replies. I think I will charge a sitting fee and offer prints included.
