anyone exp. with radio slaves/ car mounting?think of using some radio slaves to fire off a camera via remote, i know the d70 can't do it, and the d100 yes/maybe with the grip. can anyone confirm this?
also planning the mount this camera onto inside a racer car for some driver shots or outside shots ( i think are out of the question, due to seeing some horrorifly stories and clips but convince me otherwise). i have a sticky pod, but i have some doubts in using it maybe get some manfrotto magic arms with clamps. any advice? Yes, all can do it with the Nikon ML-L3 remote or Pocket wizard Birddog114

Hi Redline,
radio remote for the D70 ?, not that I'm aware of. You would have to build a receiver that triggers the infrared within sight of the D70, interesting project though. Infrared with original Nikon remote or el cheapo Jacar key remote: yes. HTH Cheers CD
I have Pocket wizards and shot remotely with 3 difference camera D70/ D100/ D2h in 3 difference setup and timing.
The Nikon ML-L3 is OK but the range and functions are not great as the Pocket Wizard. Birddog114

pocket wizards are basically the industry standard in radio remotes usually they are used for flashes etc pick up any skate BMX mag and just about every photo in them has pocket wizards used to trigger remote flashes with either MF for the still s or digital slr's for the sequences.
if you get pocket wizard multimax's you should be fine shooting with the D70 and i believe the range is about 1600 feet
Here's the info on the Pocket Wizard:

What about this radio slave from Deratz Electronics?
Has anyone tried this device? http://www.users.bigpond.com/sderatz/
Yes, I've seen it in a show last year and it ain't cheap in comparison with the price same as it has less and less functions and controllable than the Pocket Wizard. Birddog114

birddog how did you connect the pocket wizard to a d70? it doesn't have a 10pin connection. I didn't want to use a cord or ir remote, cos i won't be in the car when i fire the shutter.

With the D70 you have to use the IR remote! Birddog114

I have the Deratz radio controlled unit and extra slaves, to use with flash units, it works great and does go through walls, it is not cheap but was the best available 4 years ago and still working so I have got my money's worth

Yes I knew him very well, unfortunately nothing he can do with the D70. And I have Pocket Wizard on my D100/ D2h, Pocket Wizard is more better units than Steve got. Birddog114

yeah i know, the sales person was pushing to sell thumbplus to me.
but i thought the saleman in teds was much worst, very rude and arrogant. The fact that he was more concerned in finalising a sale which was for a customer in another state, rather than pass it on to the other free salemen to handle, as he was the only "expert" in remotes. i guess he really needed thew commission. anyway this was i plan to do
car travelling 60km/h = 16.6 m/s human reaction time = 0.2 s distance travelled = 3.33 metres according to the depth of field cal a 35mm camera with a 300mm leneses at f/5.6 focusing cars at 30metres has a dof of 3.37m so i plan to place a marker cone at -0.0 metres or point at which i see the car pass the cone -another at 3.33 meters and another 1.7m away from the second cone. so when the car comes pass the first cone i hit the shutter reaching the second cone. hence setting focus point at point b. does this some right? and another 1.7m away from the second cone.
