Postby mic on Sun Feb 20, 2005 11:52 pm

Does anybody have a preference of these on their SB 800 ?

Thanks,

Mic.

For general use, TTL with spot metering (hence no TTL BL). Other modes may be used occasionally when I have time to set up, and is used as a learning/staying in touch exercise. Seeing as all of what I do is HH, I make it easy on myself.

Cheers

I prefer AA when flash is used as the main light. I tend to find TTL inconsistent at times, but it's great when used as fill.

Because the camera doesn't divulge what it's doing with i-TTL, it is impossible for the photograher to replicate shots. As Onyx states, that leads to inconsistencies.

Thom Hogan recommends using AA (and manual or aperture preferred metering) to enable full control over the camera and flash.

I mainly shoot manual and AA for those reasons.

Interesting tips. When I was using my SB-800 in France, taking shots of my baby nephew I found that using TTL-BL or TTL when left in AUTO (so it got the focal length from the camera) I found that the shots were overly lit to the extent that the lighting didn't have a natural look to them.
