Hunter Valley - Recommended Spots / Roads

Been far toooo long since I've taken photos. My gear has been languishing my corner

So I'm thinking of heading up the Hunter Valley tomorrow afternoon. Looking for recommended routes / spots / roads. Anywhere with decent scenery really. Within an hours drive is preferable, but I'm not too fussed.

Help appreciated.

Hey Nick,
The Lovedale Long Lunch weekend is on this Saturday so expect a lot of traffic and few drunken souls around Lovedale Road.
Maybe take the camera and join in on the fun with a cheese plater and bottle from the cellar door!

good to see you looking for photo hops

There is a nice area around Ellalong. From there, you can take a road up to the Watagans, from Sandy Creek Road, turn on the Watagans road and go up to the escarpment. There should be signs pointing you to Maclean Lookout. Great views of the valley. If you feel energetic, you can walk along the Great North Walk for a while from there.

Morpeth is always nice with a few old buildings but it can be busy on weekends.

All around the vineyards is very nice but I always like to go up Pokolbin Mountain Rd and look back at the vineyards. Just follow that road to the top.

Around Wollemi is also a nice drive.

If you're interested in vineyards, try Audrey Wilkinson. The cellar door is perched on a hill surrounded with almost 270 degree view of vineyards. Rather quaint and very easy to get to.

Nick - Too late I know, but for future reference - you could also head up via Wollombi and down to the central coast along the old putty road and perhaps take in the Mangrove Creek dam along the way (although it's quite low ATM) - or up to Chichester dam (which is full) along the lower Allyn river and the lower side of Barrington Tops or head up north then along the Bucketts Way to Gloucester. Whatever you ended up doing - I look forward to some great shots.
