Old lensone of my family member pass me an old lens Canon 28-80 USM. Do i need to service it before i use it?
I was told it has not been use for years. Is there a place in Perth that i can have it check out? Cheers Eugene
Re: Old lensCheck that all the buttons and dials work.
Check that the lens is clean and free of scrathes. Also make sure there is no fungus on the internal elements. Look through the lens and angle it to the light so you can see the internal elements. You may need to fool to diaphragm into opening. look for spots or lines on surfaces. If they are there it will need a proffessional workover, or possibly consigning to the bin as it may cost more than its worth to fix. Reall bad cases need the affected lens elements replaced. If it passes all these tests, simply put it on the camera and try it out. Actually do that anyway. Even if the lens is flawed, it may work well enough for your purposes. Greg
