For those of you who enjoyed the Vintage Aircraft PPS in this thread http://www.dslrusers.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=37288from the same source (Friday Humour Archives) some outstanding Russian military aircraft - from an airshow in 2007. Once again, in Powerpoint format for your viewing pleasure. http://humour.bluehaze.com.au/files/20090830_russia.ppsWOW. Many highlights, but check out the Su-27UB flying along at about 15 feet above the runway. Some of the Russian aircraft don't look so sleek, but they do look very impressive and intimidating. Highly recommended for aviation buffs.

Me too Gerry, they have a definite look to them. Not quite so sure I want to fly in their commercial aircraft however

Beautiful machines of destruction. A symbol of mans madness. We will, without doubt, destroy this planet one way or the other.

Thanks for this. Some of them look like they are deliberately designed to be ugly ? What's the scoop on the one with the large tank on the top! ?

The aircraft is a Myasishchev VM-T Atlant and the large bulbulous object on the top was used to transport freight to the Baikonur Cosmodrome. The inside of the plane was used for carrying Energiya booster rockets. Only two were ever constructed and there is only one left in Russia at the Zhukovsky airfield and no longer used as the Antonov An-225 Mriya took over the job in 1989.

Chris, thanks for the info! I suppose they build the dome so that it's easier to load and unload? Otherwise it would have been relatively simple to make the airline slightly larger to accomodate the volume? Maybe it was the shape of the load??

That’s why they now use the Antonov An-225
