Fisheye Lens Cap

I'm new here, so first of all let me say hi!

Down to business.
I recently bought a 16mm 2.8 fisheye for my D700.
Due to the curvature of the front element the lens uses a slide on lens cover that sits onto a fixed hood.

However, the tolerances they designed the cover with seem to be slightly loose and it seems to slip off at random inside my Lowepro Fastpack. Has anyone else experienced this issue and do they have any solutions to recommend?
If theres a quick and cheap way to amend this small problem that would be one less thing to have to think about when Im out and about.

Hi Anthony, and welcome.

If you look around in camera stores, you should be able to find a cap keeper sort of device. It consists of a small length of cord, and at one end you can attach it to the lens, and at the other end, to your lens cap. When the lens is in use, the cap just hangs from the lens.

Or when it's fallen off the lens, too.

I can solve your problem, send the lens to me! On a more serious note there really isn't am easy way to make the cap stay on. Maybe you should store the lens in one me those soft cases you get with some Nikon lenses. I don't like the idea of an uncapped lens in my bag. To top things off you can't filter it and the depth of field means scratches will be more likely to show.

I've come to find capkeepers a nuisance because the string tends to get caught in the zipper of my Lowepro pack when I am using that.

I have a 16mm f3.5 fisheye with a lens cap with a lens cap that stays on and it's a Leica lens cap. It's probably my only piece of Leica equipment and makes the lens much sharper and it also shows that alternatives may be possible.

Try putting a sliver of dry dish washing sponge into the gap. Wont be pretty but it will keep it snug

I was thinking some black/dark grey foam. Easy enough to get hold of.

I think its fine thusfar, because the inside of the bag has seperated lens pockets, smooth lining and the lens hood usually covers it well from touching. But no reason not to minimise my chances of damage. The reason i am apprehensive at putting it in a lens cover is that it would kind of defeat the purpose of my pack (lets me pull out the camera/gear quickly without having the put it down or drop anything).

Both good ideas, maybe even run a bit of thin tape around the inside of the cap to pack it out.

A good idea but Im not sure whether the cap keeper would prevent the cap sliding off in the bag, even it it was a short cord i think it would slip off to one side. The cap itself is fine for general use and wont fall off if its capped and on my neck, its just when the lining of the bag rubs against it seems to slip it off the top (and the lens pockets are tight so if i had it upside down the cap would pull off when i go to pull it out, also sounds risky ...this even happens with some of my other snap on lenses too, i should probably make the pockets a little bigger!)
