Back from Tassie....but some bad news...help please

Postby aim54x on Sun Nov 29, 2009 9:46 pm

Hey all,

In case anyone noticed that I have been quiet for a few days, it is because over the last two weeks I have been away three times and have not been able to get online as much as I normally do. Firstly I headed off to Kanagara Boyd Nat Park on a lizard collection trip with my old lab for two days, came back for two days before heading down to Kiama with my girlfriend, returning on Monday. Finally I was in Hobart for four days (Wed to Sat). I have had a great time on all of these excursions, but it appears that there has been a cost.

Lost/Damaged equipment
-glasses - claimed by the Tasman on the way to Bruny Island
-Nikon LC-52 - MIA (anyone know where to get a genuine one for relatively cheap?)
-Tamron DA09 lenshood (for 17-50mm f/2.8 A16N) - cracked...was in my sisters bag on the S5 Pro...anyone know where to get one?

IT issues - I have returned to a few...help please!!
-Computer shutting down - this problem has returned....guessing maybe a cleanout for dust (again) or possibly a power supply thing....grrr
-website down - it appears as if my WordPress DB has shit itself...I have been very bad and do not have any backups for the posts etc on that website...I am asking my host for a server backup but I am not sure if that will happen. Any ideas?

Sorry no pics yet....maybe when I get some of the IT issues fixed

Computer seems to have stabilised a bit...has not shut itself down in a little while *touches wood* but website seems completely at the mercy of my web host (3ix...which I wont recommend). I may have to rebuild from scratch and write off all the work that I have done on it...as it is all in my now non-existent wordpress database.

it appears as if my WordPress DB has shit itself.

get the DB off the server asap, at the very least you will have a copy to work with, if it is mysql you get backups every now and then, they should dump to .sql files.. let us know how you go.

Sorry to hear about your troubles Cameron.

Does the motherboard indicate that it's overheating? Perhaps adding another fan to the case might solve the issue? Or running it with the case open in the first instance.

Could you replace the hoods with a cheep after-market hoods from flea bay?

Some good news:

-Website working - LiveChat with 3ix got it fixed...it seems like there was a permissions change on their side (DODGY!!) I have taken a backup of that database and will do so more often now
-computer seems to have stabilised (no motherboard overheating...I still think it is a PSU thing)
-LC-52 replaced - Thanks Foto Riesel for looking after me (I guess they were looking after a fellow Camera House)

as for that Lens Hood....I guess I call Maxwell tomorrow from work...there is a guy on ebay selling them from the US but I am unsure if I trust him (99.2% rep and a very new seller)

This is not good enough for any seller actually. I usually only order from >99.5 + lots of sales and preferably a shop with a reputation.
