Your Favourite image from 2010

Postby biggerry on Thu Dec 09, 2010 2:12 pm

I recently had a bit of poke through some of the better images that I have taken over the year and thought it would be a interesting excerise to see what people thought was their favourite image for 2010. Obviously favourite does not necessarily infer 'best' image however...

So bring it on... post or link to YOUR favourite image of 2010, also include a brief description on why its your favourite. This would be a great way to wind up the year!

This is a great idea Gerry. I am sure there will be some very interesting work presented from all of us.

Ok, I'll start. :)

In May, I braved the Icelandic volcano dust clouds and flew to the UK to complete the TGO Challenge. This is a long distance walking event held each year, and is a 14 day self planned, self navigated, self supplied hike across Scotland from West to East. Challenger numbers are limited to 300 or so Challengers each yearly event. Each Challenger or team (max 4 persons) has their own plan and route. Challengers Choose from a dozen or so start points on the West coast, and can finish anywhere on the East Coast between Arbroath and Fraserborough - their route in between is up to their own planning and navigation. My Challenge was solo. I started at Strathcarron, and finished at Castle Dunnattar near Stonehaven. My total walking distance was just over 320km. Every night was under canvas apart from 3 resupply and washup points along the way (B&B's).

The trip was an absolute blast and great fun, the country was awesome, and the people I met along the way were friendly and very helpful. I'd like to say it was a trip of a lifetime (and it was) but that might preclude me repeating it!

Along the way, I climbed a few peaks, the highest of which was Lochnager. This photo might not be the most technically perfect shot, but it serves well to remind me of the excellent time I had, and the stunning scenery and weather I experienced every day.

That sounds like a great trip you had there Michael....did you lug a SLR the whole way?

I love these self-answering questions :)

Yep. GF-1, 20/1.7 and 7-14/4. Weight of the whole lot is substantially less than equivalent DSLR gear.

I carried it all in a Kinesis beltpack which turned out well - I also carried compass, GPS and various bits and pieces in there, saved having to stop and hunt in the pack for a snack etc along the way. Just had to remember to clip on the beltpack before my backpack.

Sounds like a blast. You were brave to go it alone.

I haven't got a favourite image from 2010 as I have hardly pulled out my camera. I have many from last year but spent the year looking through the lens.

I can't pick just one. I can narrow it down to three though.

I'm not sure why I really like the below shot. I just do...
Image

This one I like because it's about the only shot I had the idea of capturing before going to Europe. This was taken on the night before we flew home. It was literally my last chance to get it...
Image

This is my favourite from the car photos I've done. I just love the colours and the contrast between them...

Well after going through a heck of a lot of photos this is the one i kept going back to the most, not sure why, i think its sentimental from my first wedding, but I still think its a nice shot and its why i am sticking it up on here, it was hard to only choose 1, i had around 10 favourites but to pick 1 is harder then i thought!

It's easy to rule shots out, but harder to whittle down the good ones.

I like this one:

But also this one:

This is my favorite for the year, purely for sentimental reasons. It was one of only 5 or 6 shots I took all day at my daughter's wedding.

Alrighto,

this image rates up there for me - not the most technically great image, not a spectacular seascape, however this image invokes alot of great memories of WA and some of the stunning walks we did in teh sterling ranges, this is half way up bluff knoll, you can see the carpark in the centre of the frame, great walk!

I am sure next week I will change my mind on the favourite

This was one I took on the World Wide Walk earlier in the year.
A long way from the best technically, but one I keep coming back to.
Perhaps it helps to know they are mother and daughter.
