Funny how Canon gets the cudos for recovering the images when it should go to the memory card manufacturer who doesn't even get a mention.

Interesting story. I just wonder if it's "viral-ness" is being kicked along by Google given this comment:
"an interesting comparison: I posted this on facebook early this morning to try my luck there - it received one 'like' - that's it (there's a reason I left)." Or maybe I'm just getting cynical in my old age.

Markus Google+ page has an update:
"Canon Canada contacted me and have offered to replace the owners 'severely weathered' Rebel XS - free of charge. SanDisk has also contacted me and will be providing us both with new SD Extreme III Pro imaging cards. My thanks to both for the kind gesture!"



Finally an aside on how sloppy journalists are.

Daily Mail says "a diver spotted it rusting away in the depths and rescued it..."

Engadget says "Canon EOS 1000D washes ashore" as it's headline with the body stating "Marcus Thompson, found the DSLR washed up near a wharf while on a diving job"

While Markus Thompson says on his Goolge+ page "found off the end of a wharf in Deep Bay, BC while I was diving"

A big 1/10 for Engadget I reckon - couldn't even get the name right

I read this...and thought....it cant be the only camera that has been lost into the ocean...

Nice of Canon to offer the owner a new camera....get on the publicity bandwagon!

What struck me from this story is how absolutely trashy the Daily Mail is (re: the "FEMAIL TODAY" sidebar). The phone hacking that went on (and probably still goes on) is not at all surprising given the people that obviously buy this trash. The UK should be ashamed (as should much of Australia that also read/watch this crap).

I feel a bit dirtier having reviewed that sidebar.

But, don't be surprised given Today Tonight and its ilk are consistently top raters. Count how many vicarious police and other 'reality' shows there are; consider the focus on 'celebrity', where such celebrity simply arises because someone videotaped themselves shagging someone else and then releasing the video; where 'celebrities' put their names to perfumes (because people will buy them), etcetera.
