Brand New Lens Onboard

Postby ozimax on Fri Sep 25, 2015 11:19 am

I have taken the plunge and purchased a Canon EF 100-400 Mkii.

Late yesterday I braved the frigid wind and headed down to the beach to photograph some waxheads doing their stuff off the north break wall. The light was lousy and the action sporadic but in the 7Dii/100-400ii combo is, in a word, phenomenal. I have no idea what I'm doing with the AF at this stage, but it just doesn't miss focus, even at 10 fps. The thing can shoot 1090 jpg's before slowing down. It is a beast. No great images to post from yesterday but hopefully there will be many more as the summer approaches. No need for a gym membership with this equipment as it's as heavy as lead, but enjoyable.

I have sold the X100s, and the 90mm F2 is next to go, which will pay for most of the new lens. I plan to keep the XT-1/35/18-55 setup as it is brilliant and easily transportable. I am saving my bickies to add a Canon 16-35 f4, which is highly regarded as a stellar lens.

It's a phenomenal lens Tony. I'm looking forward to trying out the 16-35 some time. Need to liquidate some more assets beforehand. BTW, I'm in Canberra/Q'beyan for the next week. Any unusual photo sites worth perusing apart from the usual Black Mountain/Parliament/Floriade?

Have you been to Tidbinbilla - Orroral Valley homestead, London bridge out at Googong, Lanyon homestead and the big hole further afield down near Braidwood. Maybe we might be able to catch up for a coffee/tea next week as I am on leave but I think I am away on Tuesday to Thurday, not sure yet. But if you are busy that's fine no problems.

Thanks Tony. Work schedule is crazy full this week but I'll be around ACT Mon 5/10- Wed 7/10 if you want a coffee somewhere. All the best.
