Just need to confirm, that it is ok to use 1.7 TC with 80-400VR lens.

Nige, supposedly it is not, I believe the 80-400 is not recommended to use TC on, but believe third party units will or modified Nikon will. The Nikon TC is recommmended for AFS or AFI? lenses only but can be modified. I don't have the 80-400 so don't know what works with it.

Sorry, NBigel, but no. It won't fit.

You need to grab either a Kenko or Tamron for this lens. Vanbar is your friend, and around PP200 will see one in your inventory.

Nigel,
The 80-400 is maximum at f.4, using a TC on it is not worth it, insrease f stop you need to have few stadium floodlight lighting up the subject for you to focus.

The Kenko 300 Pro, 1.4x will work on the 80-400, retaining both AF and VR. It will degrade AF, especially in lower light conditions. If used in good lighting, it's not too bad, just a little less reliable than normal. It's best used on a monopod. :)

Yep top lens and Kerry has a lot nice pics taken with one as well, i guess we all look for that bit closer, sometimes. More reach means more money, maybe the bigma 50-500 who knows. well 6am time for work.
Cheers

BBJ,
Your dream may comes true! the Bigma is not enough for what you want, the 200-400VR or the Sigma 300-800, I can order one for you this morning
