CF cards are valid PCMCIA drives, you just need a simple adapter to map the pins. That's pretty much the same thing (given that most laptops have PCMCIA slots).

Yes, but the adapters are, IME, painfully slow. They make snails look fast, in fact. The built-in readers (and USB2 CF card readers as well) are much quicker. By more than an order of magnitude.

It sounds like a lot of pre-release hoohah deliberately started by Nikon to spark interest, conversation, speculation... like this. Marketing ploy??? It should be intereresting to see how accurate those manuals really are. It is also possible that they were leaked for the benefit of Nikon's competitors.

Cheers

FWIW, IR window is on the handgrip, and there's no secondary command dial on the front.

Matt,

These do not look like marketing BS tactics at all; they look like the full manual, just like the PDF versions I have of the D70 and SB800 manuals.

We're talking something like 144 pages for the D50 .... If you believe they'd go to that trouble for just marketing purposes, then I'd expect the shareholders would be somewhat upset with 'em.

Gary,

I was thinking more in terms of the manual being edited to provide deliberately misleading information. Of course, I was just speculating.

I don't think you could term that an 'upgrade'! :P I'd consider a 2nd body, but it's too early to tell, we'll have to see where the D70S settles in the market, and what the D200/D100s/whatever brings to the table. Unfortunately the SD kinda kills the D50 for me, but it'll be interesting to see what its new metering turns out to be like.

Nikon and most other camera companies except Canon could not come up with a creative idea like yours :D

Though it would be a real devilishly thing to do  just when Canon is stealing sales on the low end.
