D50 + D70s release on the 20th April

Postby birddog114 on Sat Apr 16, 2005 7:31 am

http://nikonimaging.com/global/news/2005/0415_01.htm

For the last couple weeks, I can't order any D70 camera, Maxwell has no fresh stock, HKG has stock but more dearer than previously.

So after the 20 April, we start to roll in with the new models of Nikon D50 + D70s.

Hopefully I can get hold of stock begin May 05.

Damn, and I'm trying to save for my holiday.

Anyone have any idea as to what the new additions to D70s over the current D70 will be?

Certainly not significant enough to suggest an 'upgrade' is in order. There's various threads around suggesting what is or isn't there, some of which is based on a "pre-release" from Nikon websites (the sort of thing companies these days do to generate talk in the market place).

There's probably a few threads on here devoted to it, although I still haven't got this search thing worked out and can't find any quickly.

If you're not yet a D70 user then I would think the move to D70s would be a no-brainer, although let's see what price :)

Scott,

The user manual said 6MP; no change there.

Can't recall if it said MLU, but the changes were minimal.

One new item was the inclusion of provision for a corded remote, which to me means there's a real possibility of a vertical grip; the battery chamber has also been changed slightly which may or may not add weight to this possibility.

The corded remote connector might also allow for connection a wireless unit, but that's pure speculation on my part.

jdear,

The D50 is also being released within the same timeframe, and it may well come in at a very affordable price; perhaps that one's for you?

Kewl...
As much as I dont like the MP race that suprises me..

I guess they are leaving room in the lineup for a d90..

I would be suprised, with those specs if the d70s did not come out at a very similar price point to the d70

It should be the same, or as near as dmmit.

The D50 should be somewhat cheaper.

I imagine that the D70s, much like the D2hs, is just essentially a temporary place holder for whatever's coming next.

For example, the D2hs is a place holder for a lot of people who want to buy the D2x.

And the D70s is s place holder for people wanting to buy a slightly better D70 until the D90 or D200 comes out.

Let's see if they can meet this April 20 release date. I only just saw a D2HS yesterday (retailing, not our HKSupplies' office), so I wonder when this 20 April will translate to in real terms.

You'll probably see one in a week or two.

Maxwell will probably see one (either of the models) when the D90 and D200 are announced.

The released date doesn't mean mass delivery to their distributors.

I say Maxwell will get a first lot of around 100 units by that date then following in the month of May or June of more to come on the shelves.
You won't see much of the D2hs around, cos if anyone going for the D2hs, they will save their $$$ and go straight to the top of the line model, or they can buy the used D2h with 1/2 price of the D2hs, trust me: no big demand on the D2hs.

In the D70 area, Nikon doesn't have anything in that range to make people to think, so the D70s will be popular as the old D70, especially, its price is the same when it was released 18 months ago, and trust me, it'll sell same as hot cake, cos not so many stock of the D70 around in the last 4 weeks, that make the D70's price over the level of AU$2K.

I have some local customers (15) on the waiting list for "Maxwell/ Nikon D70s" and they paid deposit for it, current estimated price is AU$2200.00 for the D70s and kit lens.
