Sigma DG series

Postby Rags on Mon Apr 18, 2005 8:07 pm

Read in a photo magazine that Sigma has launched the DG series of digital friendly lenses, some 13 lenses in all. I am especially interested in the 70-200/2.8 DG, which has listed among the 13. The sigma website does not list the 70-200/2.8 DG, though it does list DG lenses in smaller focal lengths. Anybody have any info on this ??

The Sigma 70-200 has been out on the market for a while now and our members have them.

Rags,

This is the only one that I know about (APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX HSM):

http://www.sigma-photo.co.jp/english/le ... 200_28.htm

As Birddog114 has mentioned a few of our members have this lens.

Also: APO Tele-Converter EX (optional)

High-speed focusing is possible when this lens is used with dedicated APO EX tele-converters (1.4x and 2x). With APO EX tele-converter 1.4x EX, it works as an AF tele-zoom lens from 98mm to 340mm F4. With APO EX tele-converter 2x EX, it works as an AF tele-zoom lens from 140mm to 400mm F5.6. It is also possible to use AE (Automatic Exposure) function, when EX Tele-converters are attached.

Thanx for the replies. I am planning to buy the Sigma HSM APO 70-200 2.8 and recently read this feature that Sigma had launched the new DG series, were a 70-200 2.8 DG was also listed. I am only interested in knowing more about the DG series..

Rags,

I hear what you are saying, but I am unbale to find any reference to a Sigma 70-200 DG. BTW: Here is a post with a shot taken with the APO 70-200 EX HSM:

Rags - yes Sigma are bringing out a new version of the 70-200 (DG) but my experience with DG or DC lenses would still make me decide on the present model of the 70-200mm (and I have one)

Thanx folks, Sigma HSM here I come ! And Fozzie, it's that kind of resolution that's seen in your pic that draws me closer to this lens. Of course, If I had a fatter wallet, I'd probably run with the Nikkor 70-200 VR( drool) , or even the Nikkor 80-200 2.8 IF ED, but I guess I have to stay with the Sigma. Something tells me that I wont regret the decision...

Rags,

It is not my picture, but Chris or sirhc55. I was just pointing you to a shot with the lens you may be purchasing. BTW: I have the Nikon 70-200VR.
