Question is, is this just Sony's poor marketing or are consumers finally becoming aware that Sony products are overpriced, overhyped crap.
I suspect the first. Samsung reacts to the consumers demands, it doesn't try to dictate it like Sony does. Steve.

I bought a plasma TV a while back, the Sony was 50% more, thats a lot for a technology with a finite life span and a few concerns about it. Suffice to say I purchased a Samsung, wont feel as sick when it breaks down

Seeing as the Sony plasma could've been either a Fujitsu, a Hitachi, or an NEC, that was probably a wise decision.

Sony LCD or Plasma panels use the Mitsubishi. Birddog114

At the risk of swimming against the flow here, I like sony stuff. Our TV is a wide screen CRT monster that weighs a ton, but the features and picture quality are fantastic (and being CRT, it is long established technology, and no-one could nick it because of the weight.) We have an excellent sony DVD player too, and a couple of other things. In fact, I have never had a sony product that let me down.
Edit... Except for the VCR remotes, bloody hopeless. Last edited by Greg B on Thu Jul 28, 2005 1:44 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Whether this is accurate or not, I have no idea:

Yes, it was correct with Sony old 42" plasma, but not anymore. Sony can buy OEM of any panel makers, who can provide them good sourc of supplies and "quality". Birddog114

Re: For Gary
There's a lot of aspects of Sony's (mis-)management that makes this story unsurprising to me. And it's not just Sony; there are a great many mega-sized corporates in the same boat. g.

i think the introduction of the umd format for the new sony psp will be its doom.
honestly, i not planning to repurchase the same titles on umd so i can play it on psp. at least ppl are workin on cracks for it. Life's pretty straight without drifting

I have always liked Sony products:
1st CD player early 80’s $1400 1st Mini Disk bought in the UK in the 80’s SACD a couple of years ago Digital 8 movie camera etc Chris

I must be a cheap bastard I have Sony products which have been good, TV etc, or troublesome like the P in P video, but I think they are charging a healthy margin now for throwaway items like plasma screens. I find it hard to spend 50% more for something with a short life span

Who're going to buy a plasma screen now? I've seen many plasma screens back into the service centers from NEC, Pioneer, Sony, Fujitsu etc... Their lifespan are not great. Birddog114

MiniDisc was a good technology... it's a shame that they've made it so bloody awful and not-so-friendly with mp3's... typical Sony "let's try to make everyone conform to our media format" logic... go ATRAC3... woo... SACD is a waste... DVD-A isn't much better, mind you... Producer & Editor @ GadgetGuy.com.au
