Trends in POTW!!

Postby Mal on Wed Aug 03, 2005 6:14 pm

I was doing a bit of catching up with the “Picture of the Week” section. And was interested to see if there were any trends in the choices that our illustrious moderators were making!
Low and behold I have discovered some interesting facts!!!

Nnnnsic, gstark and Geoff like the old BW with Nnnnsic enjoying Sepia.
GregB really likes the standard colour shot, as does Glenn, but you can get Glen’s interest with a nice Macro shot as well.
gstark can also be swayed to look at the more “abstract” shots as well.

So what does all of this prove?
Out of the twenty three POW that we have had there has been a slight leaning towards the standard colour picture.

So what else does this prove?

1. I have way too much time on my hands and better get the kids dinner ready.
3. I really wish I didn't have to work this entire weekend and could come to the AW events (at least one!!!)
2. It also proves that there are absolutely no trends developing in the “Picture of the Week” ?

I've got a camera, it's black. I've got some lens, they are black as well.

after catching up with a couple of threads today, I feel like I'm in an endless 'loop'

An interesting analysis, and one that emphasises the unique nature of photography as an artform, and how it applies in this forum. Thankyou :)

In short, pictures seem to be chosen for their uniqueness in the particular week in question - something that 'stands out from the rest'. I think this is what the POTW was established for, and it seems to be doing it's job. The best side effect of POTW (and I've said this before) is that it draws your attention to a 'special' picture which you may have missed. As such, it's one of the best additions to this site :)

You didn't look at (photographer's) location while you were doing this, were you?

Mal, thanks for doing this, I actually like the independent third party audit, proves once and for all there is no favouritism here.

Damn.

And here I was considering hiring a loop to monitor our selections.

Nice work Mal, I love an analysis. And it had me revisiting my choices.

I have had five:-

mic, darb, xerubus, owen and Nnnnsic

Mic's shot has disappeared, but it was ocean and rock with a
magical quality of this one,
the colours, the composition, and the skill with the
exposure and PP - those rocks in the right foreground
could easily have been very dark blobs"

darb's shot (which has also disappeared) was quite arty too,
two people standing on a sand dune, shot, as it turns out,
from a 4wd racing past

xerubus

owen

Nnnnsic

Not sure whether these reflect a preference for the
straight colour shot, but I can tell you it is fun and
quite difficult to select a PotW.

Again, good thread Mal!

cheers

Yeah, it's not as easy as you'd think to pick a PotW.

The quality of the images that get posted on here throughout every week and just so damned impressive.

Damn you all for making our job hard. :)

This week, I was struggling between 4 different threads.
