Hello allI am a member of the Nikon D70 forum at DPReview and until k.okeeffe advised me of the Aussie forum, (many thanks k.okeefe) I didn't realise there was one available.
I am about to purchase a D70 and have been checking out prices and deals. The best I can come up with is $2299 for the D70 plus 2 lenses, the 18-70 plus the 70-300. On top of that of course is the Nikon $200 cash back, so $2099 for this kit may be OK. Is this reasonble, any advice will be more than welcomed. I am about to put my Olympus E-20 with additional 14b wide zoom lense up for sale and will purchase the D70 as soon as it is sold.
welcome nigels.... hope you enjoy your stay...
that package sounds reasonable to me.... http://www.markcrossphotography.com - A camera, glass, and some light.

Welcome Nigels,
I don't have the 70-300 G lens but many members has it, you don't have to wait long for the replies. The deals is standard nowaday, not a bargain, cos you can buy the D70+ 18-70 kit lens at $1995.00 including GST before $200.00 cash back or $1795.00 after cash back at many stores lik Vanbar, ECS etc..., and the 70-300G you can buy Grey at around AU$200.00. Again, you'll need some CF card as pair of 512Mb or 1Gb and bag and a SB-800 as well. Birddog114

G'day Nigel,
Welcome to the Oz forum... I'm only a new member myself, recently purchasing the D70 with the 18-70 kit lens, but instead of buying the 70-300G Nikon, I went with the Sigma 70-300APO with Macro ability... From what I've read the Nikon 70-300 is a good starter zoom, like the Sigma... When I purchased the D70, "Teds" had various deals with either kit lenses etc. I ended up with the D70, 18-70 kit lens (which is really good) and an external DVD player (very handy) for $2199. The 70-300G was about an extra $250. The Sigma cost me about $425 I think... Don't forget to get yourself some memory though unless you other camera is a digital and used CF, there aint none with the camera... Otherwise major bummer when you get home and wanna play with your new toy... E-Bay is also a source of cheaper deals but I've never purchased from them, good feedback though, so I assume they'd be OK... Cheers mate... Mudder, don't have a DVD player at home? $55.00 for one with multi system; Pal, NTSC, DTS, SRS/ play all formats CD-R/ CD-RW/ DVD RAM/ DVD-R/DVD+R, make in China of course. Birddog114

Hi Nigelswelcome and If I may say so:
were all in it together. Cheers CTD
Welcome.
While others here are satisfied with their 70-300G, Mine is like the bite of a one month old baby: too soft. Seems to be ok for film work, but not anywhere near sharp enough for me for digital work. Just my opinion. As others say, make sure you get a CF card in your purchase; 512MB should be the minimum you're looking at. g.

Welcome Nigels!
Suggest you forego the 80-300 zoom and negotiate for a 50mm 1.8. It's razor sharp and great for low light and portraits. Save up for a zoom later on. Looking foreward to your images and posts. Regards

Doh... I just realised... I meant burner... Damn, I knew what I meant to type... This keyboard is dislexic.... It lays awake all night wondering if there really is a dog... ar ar ar Cheers, Mudder (I think the coffee's kicked in...)
Hey Nigel, by my awesome powers of deduction, I deduce this k.okeefe you speak of on dpreview forums is our Kristine, from WA. Be sure to say hi to her.
There are plenty of deals going on right now with the D70. The different package deals may be of varying usefulness to you. eg. the 70-300G lens. You've heard some opinions of that lens already; but if it's something that you still want then the deal $2200 with it included will do. If however you could do without that, and would prefer some CF cards, filters and what not to get you started (you'll need a CF card in any case), consider buying from Vanbar.com.au (they have various deals with D70 packaged with diff lenses), or fellow forum member Birddog114 who can pretty much customise everything you want into a sweet deal.
Welcome Nigels to the best forum and the best guys and gals on the D70 circuit.
Cheers Chris Chris

Hi Nigel
Welcome to the forum. I am glad you came and joined. I am sure you will find all the members very friendly and more than happy to assist you with your new purchase. Like the other members have advised, Vanbar is a very competitively priced retailer for your purchase. You can also contact birddog via PM to see what he currently has on offer. I can confirm that no-one can be our bird-dog. He is kind of a legend around here! (just go through previous posts). Cheers Kristine
Hi KristineHello Kristine,

Nigels,

There is a diversity of people interested in the same thing, and a different levels. So fire the questions in, and you will be sure to get a response, unless we have gone to bed. You have to sleep sometime. Cheers, fozzie
