It's just happened! Wooohooooo!
While I'm lurking the forum, the Fedex truck stopped in the front building, a guy open the gate a box in his hand with a big smile! What do you guy think? Your guess! My hand was shaking! I signed the doc, he left, I brought the box inside and did not want to open it my feeling Oh no! I'll let Glen to open the box, cos my hand shaking and I may drop it on the concrete floor, he'll be here soon! Birddog114

Birdie - I am sure Glen’s hands will be shaking too - you had better open it together. Looking forward to seeing some shots but make sure you are using a VR as your hands will be shaking too much

Hey Birddog, I know this is slightly OT but do you know if Nikon are going to come out with any wide angle zoom lenses that are non DX eg. 18-70 or 18-55 with around F2.8?
Given the fact that the D70s are already being phased out for a newer meaner model, I just don't want any lenses that I have also to be made virtually useless if Nikon decide to change their direction with sensors. Last edited by kipper on Fri Mar 18, 2005 5:25 pm, edited 1 time in total.

No, I haven't got one shot yet, I'm still busy doing some works for the end of the week, Glen had around 30 shots. Birddog114

Kipper, Sorry, negative! and I don't think that range will be existed in the near future with non DX lenses, and Nikon did not have that range in the past. Birddog114

Pffft, Glen - 256Mb CF card to play with a D2X?! Enjoy taking those half dozen pics.
Let's see those pics of the most photographed backyard Glen! NB: If you've figured out the new sYCC colorspace let me know... I can still only see sRGB mode 1 & 3, and aRGB1998.
Well, I just held it... and I couldn't wait to put it down! ~$15K of camera + lens (D2X + 200-400VR) is a scary proposition!
I was pondering the mechanics of taking so many large photos so quickly... in uncompressed RAW about 160 MB per second while buffered... even USB2.0 is only what, 480 Mbps, i.e. 60 MB ps. Incredible! This thing eats CF cards...
Just round at Birddog's and am I excited, my hands were shaking as I undid the box and put the card in. One awesome machine!!! These shots were taken out of the box with no adjustments to the camera (because I didn't know how to ). Luckily the D2X was set to compressed NEF, they were only 10mb instead of 25mb. Even better was when I looked at the crop in Capture it gave me the option of saving uncompressed at 69mb! Anyone got a 100 terrabyte disk for sale and a cheap cray computer?
Car Car cropped I thin
The files are so big my 768mb 2800mhz machine is struggling! Birddog mention he had upgraded all machines to 2gb, now I can see why. Photos I took were ordinary, might have to work on some more another time. I envy you all at Blackheath tomorrow.
We know you're thin Glen Now we also know you have a trigger happy typing style (or is that pesky new lappie having keyboard probs already! ) Peter

That was going to be "I think" written while writing aD2X file to disk, but it suddenly finished. The preview jpg was 3.2mb, the compressed NEF was 10.6, uncompressed 25mb, with an option to save as 69mb offered in Capture. Budget for a new pc with your D2X.
mmmmm.... very very nice....
birddog... enjoy the new toy... you of all people deserve it... cheers http://www.markcrossphotography.com - A camera, glass, and some light.
Glen, I think that was the unit I had a play with previously! If you were able to slide the battery in and play straight away (they come pretty much fully drained), and I had set NEFs to compressed on 1 units, not sure about the rest. I also turned NR off on it (I can see your 2nd pic is consistent with NR being off).
You might also have noted the AF switch on the body was set to S instead of the true default of C. Check the shutter actuations... it might be 40 more than it should have been.
Glen
Thanks for taking & posting the shots. Very impressive debut. Look forward to seeing what birddog does with it tomorrow. Peter

Chi we stuck the D2H battery in, was set to S. To be honest I couldn't really get the menus worked out in five minutes, as we were also picking up a notebook for my brother, sticking ram in mine and the Trent (MCWB) arrived. A guy like me would require five minutes just to work out how to set it up the first time.
So, I imagine you are sitting at home now Glen, with your celluloid peak on, the lights dimmed with your money box in front of you. 1 gold florin, 2 gold florin, ah 2Dx, 3 gold florin. . .

The next PC upgrade is budgeted for July or August 05 with coupa machines with:
Dual AMD Athlon 64 FX55 Processor, Socket 939, HTSB 2GHz, 1MB L2 Cache/ 2Gb RAM and RAID 5 with 4 x 400Gb SATA. These will fly the D2x files. Birddog114

Worse than that Chris, truly great camera, I think I would need an evening to just work out the menus. It is beautiful, thank you Birddog for letting me open it and take some shots, I feel very honoured.
You deserved it and my hand was shaken! You'll get it one day near, once the market settled and stock is full on the shelves, and time for me to drool over the D3x Birddog114
