Actually, it's a written and enforced code that we don't post stuff that's too negative.

I'm happy with Moz's post in this instance, I don't see it as being OTT.

When I read moz reply, I thought OK flame bait, but then looked at the sig and its full of Canon gear. Its all good.

Perhaps you could use one of the thirty pieces that came with the deal to make your own silver shutter button?

John,

I don't really see that anyone will take any of these the wrong way, and I'm really not seeing any friction being generated through what you've said.

Matt,

That's the wrong question. I have n FTn that's definitely old school, but it's still perfectly functional, and functions perfectly.

The correct question though is have you outgrown the featureset of your D70? If so, then it may be appropriate justification to look to something newer.

If not, then just be careful to avioid stepping in that smelly pile of marketing.

You are not alone, I am thinking of upgrading to D200, but having a battle with myself as to what I would gain with the level of photography I do.

The only real justification I can come up with at the moment is that a second body for me makes sense as I am in a remote area. A weekend jaunt for me can be up to 600Ks return. Would hate to have a body (camera) failure and return home with only the memories instead of the pics. I suspect I will place an order soon.

I have just arrived home from work via meeting up with rookie2 for CCD Sensor Cleaning of his D70s, and read this post
Stubbsy has already moved to Canon with the '5D' and Glen has one arriving on Friday.

Come on Stubbsy, let as into the secret deal :!:
Well the deal was brilliant (unfortunately I can't say how brilliant since that was part of the deal - suffice it to say I felt like I was stealing :D

I feel like I'm getting a hell of a lot out of my D70... and I doubt having a D200 or D2h (which is the one I'd consider) would make my photography any better.

Very true Leigh.

I too have looked at the 5D and D200 (gear lust) but I am very happy with the quality of the D50.

I think most people could not tell the difference between any of these cameras on even a decent size print

I got my rabbit skull image printed out on A2. Not a rough pixel or jagged edge to be seen - not bad for a 6.1 mp "cheapie"

Prices & deals + conditions will be revealed soon on this board and will offer to all qualified members who wishes to come with Canon from originally Nikon.

To start with, a top special Canon deals with lenses are only offered to a limited number of people on this board (The Top Gun  )as trial and this deal is directed from Canon Australia.

Amen Leigh ! I couldn't have said it better myself

It's often amusing that so many people bag the marketing departments of Nikon & Canon etc. however they seem to be able to persuade people into thinking they need the latest body on the market, without really doing much at all.

I'd really be interested to see what percentage of us really think they have outgrown their D70.

[EDIT] I thought it best to start another thread on this. I did not want to hijack Peter's thread. Anyone wishing to reply, please do so via the new thread I started HERE

Leigh,
I'm not saying about the D200 vs D70, we had many says and POV about these two bodies.

It's definitely, with the D2 series, a better tool will help you alot and depend on what area or field of photography which you're heading to.

As Leigh said. While I don't feel I need the latest and greatest camera body out there because I feel the D70 is doing it's job for the time being. I would like a bit more space to crop in because with the photography I do, getting closer isn't always an option either by the behaviour of the subject or limiting environmental factors (eg. water). The only thing I'd really like is VR or IS on my main lens. From what I can see of the Canon system the IS on their lenses is absolutely superb. I find it hard to get sharp results consistantly when using the 500MM on flight shots (with a shutter speed over 1/1000th) but there are guys that do with the equivalent Canon lens with IS.

This is sounding more and more fishy. What the hell's going on here? Surely Canon does not think this board is important enough to offer 'buyout' deals. Don't like the sound of this.

Yes, but aside for megapixels, it won't do much to take your pictures better.

If you suck with a D70, you're going to suck with either a D2x or a 1DsMk2.

I am a little jealous - Full Frame would be great, especially with the Nikon 28-70 and 17-35 when it happens here!

I will not be fully content with Nikon untll a perfect wide angle DX is released. 12-24 does very well in the meantime though.

FF viewfinder will be a world away from the D70 you are used to Stubbsy!

Are you selling your loved 10.5 DX?

The thing that I would be most concerned about isn't vignetting, but rather AF speed and AF in low light. Photography is about the moment, so only the best AF will do. I haven't read into the 5D's capabilities here... but the D2x is impeccable. This is the main truth in "better camera can make better pictures". If you can't get focus, you can't even get pics!

It is a good thing that you haven't been spoiled by above 3fps! But, in my memory, this doesn't really matter with your shooting style.

Good luck with your new purchases, you have to love that "christmas" feeling when you can't concentrate on anything else!

That's why I invested in these lenses. I suck with a D70 and will suck with a D200, but I will enjoy myself a bit more and give me renewed interest in getting out.

The biggest thing that stands out when you pick up a Canon dslr is that the way you access and control its menu system is waaaay different to the Nikon one. IT feels really awkward. I'm guessing a Canon user picking up a Nikon dslr thinks the same about the Nikon menu system and its navigation. The other noticeable immediate difference is that the Canon turns off when you open the CF card door. At first I though this was a good thing, but you lose any data in the camera buffer when you do it (which is a bad thing)

I must say, tis quite a surprise to read of your switch, given your not unsubstantial investment in Nikkor glass. Unlesss.... nup, it's not yet the first of April.

Leon. I must admit that I found that statement interesting. :? I guess the details will be released in the fullness of time.

I know that there is no rear rotating wheel on the back of the top right... Waiting to hear more.

And the supposedly "deals" with the association of April 1st is giving uncomfortable vibes.

I'm quite confused by this offer. Isn't a 5D worth around $4500 AU retail? And a second hand d70 would be worth around $800? Perhaps I'm missing something, but it doesn't add up for me?

cheers

Mark,
What my understanding is not "old for new" policy.
It's a deal works out as a trade-ins with heavy discount on the 5D and lenses.

There is, actually, but it's about where the multi-select control is on the D70, immediately to the right of the LCD.

I certainly found that difficult to understand, if not actually use, on the 1DS MkII

Of course it doesn't add up, if it is true then Canon are making an initial loss, but are then counting on future sales of new Canon bodies, new Canon lens, flashes and accesories, and then the ripple affect....

What's the ripple affect ? Get a few prommient members to switch and start posting gorgeous photos with Canon hardware, the lust beings to build (you can't already see it now to a small extent, with no REAL proof that the deal even exists). Given a year or so a primarily Nikon users base could be 50-60% Canon. If it gives them future sales, and more market share, plus they off load stock that may not be selling as quickly as they like, its a Winning situation for me.

Craig,
Canon do not loose money on this special deal, don't you think how smart are their marketing guys? they earned more than 6 figures/ annualy.

You're on right track, with the new customer base, they will double their profits and listen: Canon may not get involve with this directly but indirect from their channel resellers/ stores.

Well very few of us know the details of the 'special' deal, so we don't know if they are taking a loss, or just selling at cost etc I don't know so I won't try to comment. I was just trying to show that there are marketing advantages at selling things at a loss, or at cost price, to gain the intial customer base.

Another good example would be the console industry, often the hardware you buy is priced less then the components to make it, but they make it all back by charging you $80-$120 bucks on the games, it's all about getting the customer on board, and then taking them for all there cash later.

Reading this tread, I'm just trying to understand what's full frame being discussed here? This tiny 24x36 mm frame? :) Oh, is this a full frame? I thought full frame would be something from 4x5 inches on large format cameras :) Everything else is just marketing voodoo dance :)

Peter, anyway, congratulations with your new toy :) I'm sure it will serve you well :)
