D70 - CF FLASHING PROBLEM

Hi
First post for a while - have been away but back in Canberra.
A week ago my camera died - with the problem Nikon have advised - CF Light Flashing and camera dead . It has been sent off to Maxwells for recovery.
The problem is that when I spoke to the serviceman at Maxwells he "quickly" stated that the problem may not be the one advised by Nikon and that if so the fix is not covered by warranty. The symptoms are identical to what Nikon have outlined in their Advisory - when I put the CF card (Sandisk) in the camera the CF green lights flashes and the camera wont work and when I remove it the light stops flashing - so how could there be another component in the Camera that causes an identical problem?
Has anyone else had this problem and been turned down by Maxwells or are they pulling my chain??? I may be ignorant but I find it difficult to believe that there are 2 components in the D70 that cause the identical problem but only one will be fixed under warranty by Nikon
Regards, Steve
