'Negative' comments from non-slr users

Let's compile a list of comments we have encountered from non-slr users about our cameras. Things like "why can't I see the picture on the screen before I take it?" etc.

I've seen some interesting ones come up over the months, and would be good to get a list together.

While on the subject, was channel surfing at one point over the weekend and came across one of these 'infomercials' on digital cameras. The bird (oops - "nice young lady") who was pretending to know something about the subject was showing off what looked to be a 300d, and showing how a tripod is a 'really useful accessory' (with appropriate sideways nodding of blonded head). She went on to 'compose and take the shot', but used the screen to compose. Maybe she's more clever than I gave her credit!

More a negative effect than comments... I am now reguarded with ALOT more suspicion after going DSLR...

I've been kicked out of clubs, told not to take photos, eyed off suspiciously, all because people think that because I have semi-pro kind of gear that I make money out of them!

There was that D70 advertised with "video mode" - someone, I forgot who, scanned the ad for it.

One guy on DPReview complained about how dark the viewfinder was - he had not put the battery in!

Probably still had the lens cap on.

Or maybe he'd installed the viewfinder blind.

the usual "why no video" " why no preview"

I just tell them that its a professional grade camera, and the way proper camera systems work does not allow for video modes etc.

Could get all technical, but they dont get it. Most dont understand the settings or see the value in it ... until you show them some photos, or go do some sports / action photos, or plugin a 400mm lens or whatever :)

i ahve a few mates who have started getting right into it ... theyre now pissed off at me for wetting their taste buds. ($$$)

show them yo ur best photos, it usually shuts them up.

How does the battery make it lighter?

The new batteries are neither Lithium-Ion or Lead-Acid or even Nickel-Cadnium but are a 'Helium-Isotope'. Helium is lighter than air and that's what they put in balloons, there ya go, Voilah!!!!

Still if you believe that then do i have a deal for you :) :) :)

In a more serious note, ethanol powered fuel-cell batteries are not far away. So rather than having to find a power source to recharge the battery, all we will have to do is refill it with liquid ethanol. Toshiba have a mobile phone battery that uses this technology, however it's still only a production prototype. But it's not far away now, within two years is my bet.

Petal - try it with your 10D, I bet it does the same. The pentamirror finder only "turns on" when there's a battery present. It's not completely black, but it's noticeably dimmer.
