Yep.... I know it's not a good photo per se, but I quite liked the perspective of the tree being (ie looking) taller than the lighthouse.... and this is the photo that prompted me to get into photography more seriously and buy a dSLR... so it has some meaning for me....

. All the gear and no idea. PPOK / Others' pics in my threads OK
Guess I'd better answer my own question. Mine is a shot I took while sailing off Sydney on the tall ship Svanen. The pic is of another tall ship - the Bounty. On the same day member ChristianD was also present and I believe his avatar is of the same ship.
Piro. Guessed you didn't take that pic, but it raises the question - is it your x-ray and Homer just stole it from you Last edited by stubbsy on Mon Aug 15, 2005 10:40 pm, edited 2 times in total.

If I'm alone in a forest and my wife is not around to hear what I say, am I still wrong ??
mic - just noticed you've finally let the cat out of the bag about how you achieve your inversions. I see from your profile you have a prototype D70 I

Yes, but it isn't taken with the D70. Used my Olympus 5060wz.

No... somebody else took the shot of the Leek... one of these days, I'll de-lazy myself to take my own shot of a Leek... until then... my avatar will remain as-is...

I took mine in the bathroom of a strip joint, hence the red light.
I used my canon Ixus in case you were wondering what i was doing in such a place, to fulfill my innocent adolecent curiosity.
Yes, nearly all my past avatars have been taken by me, and I like to change it alot - acting out my multiple personality disorder.
My current one is of a sign outside Holland Tunnel, New Jersey side (it's the underground tunnel that leads into New York City/Manhattan Island). Taken with a <shock horror> Canon!
.....yes an old studio pix done sometime in the mid to late seventies, original shot on 120 transpancy stock......

Yep. Mine's from a series of shots I took around the University of Queensland.
Like Onyx, I change mine every now and then (usually when I get sick of looking at the same thing). Simon

NO.
My wife wouldn't let me buy another D70 to take a photo of my D70, so I had to go searching the net. In my mind, my avatar symbolises that with the D70, the sky is the limit ! One day I can hopefully change this pic to a D2X Dave

YES NO NO YES and NO...... But at the end of this month it will be YES again....... Mal
I've got a camera, it's black. I've got some lens, they are black as well.
Yes, taken inside the Space and Science Museum in Washington DC.
Not with D70, didn't own at that stage. Used a Pentax PS Terry "Photography is not about cameras, gadgets and gismos. Photography is about photographers. A camera didn't make a great picture any more than a typewriter wrote a great novel." -Peter Adams, Sydney 1978
The interesting question is what the avatar represents of you, or your reason for its choice. I remember MattK making a similar comment early in the forum history. Yes I did take this shot. (also pre D70 so I will have to update it). To me the role of the Kingfisher is partly observer (hence his spot on the 'post') but also he takes this position to selectively feed on what goes on around him. Finally, there are a lot of these around my area (Sunshine Coast) and we have watched the one in the photo used as my avatar grow up and establish a relationship with us by the contribution of his presence. He even has a mate now that he brings around to us each afternoon. So there you have it, observer, feeder and contributor.
In the end we know Nothing, but in the meantime Learn like crazy.

Yes I took mine of Wollongong Old Lighthouse. Problem was me not being a compu guru I spent most of my time trying to shrink it and I think I shrank it too much. A bit too pixelly for my liking. Mind you lighthouses are quite popular.
