Hi Everyone,
Is there a way to upgrade/modify the D70 to use the Nikon MC-DC1 Remote Cord for D70S???? I have the infra red remote but since the pickup is in the front of the camera don't find it very convenient for macro shots.
TIA
Tony

Negative!!!
The D70 and D70s are not the same with their I/O ports, even
modifying, I don't think you'll get anything out of it.

Tony,
Pls. read my thread: NEGATIVE!!!!
You could not find or buy the I/O of the D70s to
modify the D70, and even with internal circuit board wiring.

Further to this discussion, I had asked Mr Poon through his eBay shop the same question in regards to the remote working with the D70 before posting here and his reply has just come through and has me now wondering again??????
Only D70s this improved function.
You can contact your Nikon agent and pay about US$180 to get something done with your D70 to have it workable with MC-Dc1
Regards
Poon
Cheers

I don't think he has the right answer to you, or perhaps in HKG market, not available here in Australia and especially it's from Maxwell. All Nikon genuine parts come from Nikon/ Maxwell, and I'm sure Maxwell
does not support or accepting the
modification on any DSLR body.

blaize,
I have been contemplating this issue as well. My solution is that you could:
1# Remove the button from the remote.
2# Solder two wires (500mm) to the contacts on the remote then fill the hole with epoxy.
3# Solder a small button type micro switch to the other end of the wire.
4# Use a small piece of Velcro to attach the remote to the camera in a position that will fire the camera.
For the cost of a remote wire micro switch and a little time, I can see no reason this method would not work. Any comments from anybody before I wreck my remote?

wow you have given this some thought!!!
That would definately work and as you say a remote is cheap and not much to sacrifice!! I will give this some thought and post back if i go ahead with it!!

LOZ, nice and simple should work well.
I found a slightly more complicated way of going about it

Great artical Greg S........... Might be worth the extra time to make the remote dual purpose!!! Get the best of both worlds!!!!
I can see a commercial version of this in the near future maybe?????

Hi Everyone,
Just came across these on eBay and the price seems OK. I think these would be the best alternative thus far???

Tony, not a bad solution, but for next to no money you can just use a rubber band to hold a teaspoon or piece of foil in front of the IR port. Stand behind camera and aim at the spoon and Voila. Price is right.

Thanks Glen,
That makes our suggestions look very expensive
I will give that a try...... hows it go??? The best solution is often the simplest!!!

Tony, just have the dish of the spoon aimed at (or around/over) the infared receiver. I have the base of the dish covering the IR receiver, top of the spoon peeking over the top of the camera and stem running down beside the lens. The inside dish of the spoon is facing backwards towards the back of the camera ie bottom of spoon facing forward. Have a play and you will get it, if not I will post a pic. Very simple, effective but most importantly very cost effective, especially if you don't use this feature much
