Hi Everyone,

I'm in the market for a Macro Flash solution but not real sure what to buy. My budget is in the lower end as my funds are limited. Any input or suggestions would be very much appreciated!!

For most of my macro shots I use the SB800 :wink:

There are some very reasonably priced Nikon flash units (and lenses) on this website

Chris how do you use the SB-800 for your macro stuff, or i guess i should say which lens do you use???

Tony,
If you want to do proper macro flash with the flash bracket, then you'll need the flash bracket or flash extender.

Hi Tony

I should have been a bit more explicit in my first post

I use a Sigma 105mm macro. You can use the SB800 on the camera but to get better results I use a SC29 cord and use the flash off camera hand held (the flash that is).

I also have a Manfrotto dual flash bracket for macro plus a manfrotto worm drive slide plate for focussing close up. Coupled to this I also use a Canon angle finder on the D70. At present I do not have an angle finder for the Nikon D2Hs.

Thanks for that Chris.... i wasn't sure what way to go, Macro flash or bracket etc but am now leaning towards a bracket of some kind and a SC29 Cord since i already have a SB-800.

Pls. note: Some flash brackets won't work with the SC-29 mounted on the camera hotshoe, coz the flash bracket blocks/ obstructs the IR of the SC29. Not all, but couple flask brackets do that.
