Perhaps the D70 Users club could host the first World Tripod Throwing Championships at the August meet?

Wonder if we could get sponsorship from the tripod manufacturing companies?

But why stop there? How about a Canon 300D camera throwing contest as well?

hehe

Sounds good Birdy.

I can't help wondering why a tourist would throw his tripod at the PM. Very curious. I'm assuming it was a fairly light one - throw one of those beasts you have and there would need to be a by-election.

This is hilarious. here's my uptake on the matter, excerpts from the article.

....He (the PM) immediately returned to his nearby offices and was seen by a doctor as a precautionary measure.

I imagine this makes sense after such a vicious attack from a well renowned lethal weapon such as a tripod. I assume as this happened in Italy that it was a Manfrotto 055PROB which is quite heavy.

.....Police immediately arrested the assailant, identified by ANSA as a 28-year old bricklayer from the northern Italian city of Mantova.....

Ahhh, strong arms of a bricklayer so was probably able to exert some strength and high velocity into the throw.

The agency gave no reason for the attack.

Hmmm, let's see about this. Conservative Government, Prime Minister and a blue collar worker in a country that has high unemployment, high taxes and a history of Communist involvement. No reason they say....

Berlusconi's office was not immediately available for comment.

Of course not, it would be embarrasing as it is. Still, at least it wasn't a cream pie ala Bill Gates in Paris....

The prime minister regularly goes for unannounced walkabouts in central Rome and often stops for an ice cream in a Piazza Navona cafe.

I guess that if he does so again he will take 'Anti-Tripod' bodyguards with him. Loyal servants who are willing to lay down their own life by jumping in front of wily tourists carrying lethal tripods to save the life of their country's 'freely' elected Prime Minister......

Anywhere else in the world they would have used a gun, rocket, explosives, poison, strangulation even a Tiger tank - but in Italy they throw tripods. . .

Actually, I've had unconfirmed reports that the culprit was a 300D user, disgruntled with his Fiat which, as it transpires, is just a dumbed-down Alfa.

And it wasn't a tripod at all, it was his car's jack stand.

G'day,

He's lucky it wasn't a mono-pod, that'd fly through the air like a javelin!

Cheers,
