I have had a small problem with DVD burners ( perhaps I should not put lighter fluid into them to help burn the DVD's)

Any way I am on my 3rd burner in 2 year and have just found the perfect slim line laCie perfect for travel.

The only problem is it only comes in USB 2 and my iBook only has USB1 and Firewire :-(

Q Does anyone know if there is a way to connect USB2 to firewire or if you can retro fit a USB2 port into an iBook?

Sorry to post this on a photo site but A I am a luddite and B I use computers for is so I can take and store my photos now so I have to use the stupid things.

USB2 should be backwards compatible to USB1.1

running a usb2 cable into a usb1 port will work but the burn time would be at usb1 speed I thought???

Pretty slow for a 4 gig burn.

I don't know please correct me if I am wrong

thanks for the reply anyway ;-)

The simplest way to achieve a good result is to purchase the D-Link combo hub. This will enable you to connect to your computer via the firewire 400 and then plug your DVD burner into the US2 2 port on the hub.

OUTSTANDING!!!! THANK YOU!!!! :D :D :D :D :D

I will get one on monday I assume I will be able to move it from my G4 tower to my Ibook so will only have to buy one.

Very happy.

or upgrade to a powerbook...........then you will not need the external....... or have a superdrive put in the iBook.........

That is the plan but I need a burner for the G4 tower and the Ibook so this is the least expensive way to do both.

Unless you are offering to loan me $2,000 interest free for a while? :D
