Hello all,
I recently purchased the Nikon remote for the D70 (thanx Birdy!)...and since I've had it I can't get it to work with my camera, is there some setting I need to make/change on the camera itself? I've had a look through all the menus and tried but it doesn't seem to be doing anything - yes it has a battery in it . Thanks in advance,

Hi! Geoff,

Yes, on the camera you need to turn the command dial while holding down the inner button next to the bracket button. You have two options, first one is instant shutter release, second option is where a delay occurs after pressing the remote. Also, did you remove the plastic strip over the battery? And last suggestion: Its the round end you point to the camera.

Thank you!! It's the command dial thing that I hadn't done..that's great..now I will have to wait until morning to try it out as we have a guest in our loungeroom and I don't want to wake her up getting the camera and remote..and yes I had taken the little plastic sleeve out...thanx to those who answered my simple question

My first time with the remote I stood behind the damn thing and pushed the button twenty times. Just as I was about to toss the entire kit into my neighbours pool, I swung it around and it clicked. I find the remote a little unnerving, never quite sure why it works sometimes and not others.

The IR receptor for the remote is on the front of the camera and you need line of sight from the remote to the receptor for it to work.

Unless you are shooting towards a reflective object which will enable the IR to work from behind the camera

Good point Chris, I would include a mirror or other reflective thingy as line of sight in the context.

Actually, in another thread, there was reference to some little gizmo being made (I think it was home made thing) to reflect the IR bean onto the receptor from the rear of the camera!
