Vic High Country

A friend and I (not Mitedo this time), are heading off to do some 4WDriving in the Vic High Country. We leave first thing friday morning and have no set plans other than to enjoy ourselves. We have two weeks and will be totally self sufficient.

Any suggestions from the locals as to what could be considered a must see, bearing in mind that we will be looking for some seriously challenging tracks?

Mate, wishing I was in your shoes, The High country is great, whether it's the NSW or VIC side.

It goes without saying though that if you're going to the VIC High Country, a visit to Craig's Hut should be on the agenda.

I've never done the real 4WD tracks in the high country, but have done some driving on the tamer dirt roads on the Bogong high plains... and they were great! Great photoops and nice campgrounds..

Also loved Mt Buffalo... And make sure you get an image of Mt Feathertop at sunset!

First I hope your taking your walking shoes cause a lot of good spots are walkin only.
Second buy the Bongong hign plains map. If you cannot get one up there let me know I will post one.
The Wonagatta area is popular for 4X4 as is up through Licoa, either out along the Wellington river or north towards Jamison/Grant area.
Have a look at the Howqua river and Mt Howitt area which is off the back off MtBuller. No trip is complete with out going up to Mt Hotham, WALK out to MtCope for great view along the Razorback to Mt Feathertop.
Search the web for the huts in the area, always and good picture. Maybe WALK out from the back of Falls Ck to Wallace hut along a block 4x4 track, also great views out that way to. Some easy access to other huts in the area too.

Thanks for the heads up guys. Shane unfortunately I was diagnosed yesterday with a Bakers Cyst in my left leg as a result of which walking is extremely painful. I think that it will severely limit how far I am prepared to walk Will definately look at your website, presumably the link is in your profile?

Sorry to hear that, yes click on the www button, there is a HighPlains Ck section which is a walk out the back of FallCk, but also some good areas you can drive (not so much 4x4 just tracks) and a section Erica/Licoa up along the Wellington River

Sorry to hear about the Baker's cyst. Are you having it removed?

I know they're painful - my wife had one cut out a few years ago.

Trevor I cannot do anything until after the holiday apart from anti-inflamatories. I will just have to limit how much I am on that leg. It could have been worse though, it could have been both legs
