A Question About non 'Maxwell' Stock

Hi there,

I'm just wondering... If a camera/lens/accessory is bought from anywhere that isn't Maxwell's in Australia does that mean that Nikon Australia will refuse to service or fix that item? Or does it just mean that there is no warranty on that item in Australia?

Paul, it means that Maxwell won't fix it under warranty, any repairs they do you will have to pay for. That's why we buy grey import items through Birddog. :wink:

Yup, and as a result, this basic guide can always help:

Generally, buy the body from Maxwell stock in case something goes wrong, but because lenses are generally quite good provided you don't mistreat them, buying lenses from overseas is usually considered fine. :)

They have a seller's warranty.

Through the good relationship we have built up between ourselves and Poon (through Birddog's efforts) we have a means in place to enable a simplified method of enabling this warranty protection.

And, of course, there's always the aftermarket extended warranties that you also purchase.

No, buying non-white market gear does not mean Maxwell will refuse service. In fact, if it's subject to recall (eg. BGLOD issue) Maxwell will even make provisions to act as Nikon's service provider in Australia (imagine that!) for gear purchased overseas.
Or at least I think that's what happened - I can't quite decipher the writing on my receipt (a portion of labour was not charged - related to the flexible power circuit board replacement presumably to address the BGLOD issue subject to later recall).

Paul,
The Grey import items sold on this board come from our preferred suppliers as many posts mentioned earlier.

The warranty return of the stuff (Import) which you purchased, is return to me as their local rep. then I'll take care of the rest by repairing it locally or send it back to HKG, and it depends on what need to be done.

Prices of stuffs you bought from me, some of them maybe have a slightly difference of other eBay resellers by $5.00 or $10.00 or $20.00, but those extra funds will cater for the shipping when I need to send the faulty products back to HKG or send in for locally repair under the warranty which HKS granted.

You can buy directly from HKS or any eBay sellers all the import stuffs, warranty issues are the major concerning for all folks on this board, if there's a case of faulty product, which Maxwell refuses to repair under its warranty (Including International warranty), then you have to fork out few hundred dollars to send it back and forth to its original source.

I have proof of customer, which they spent nearly five hundred bucks to send the Canon 1Ds MKII back to one of HKG Ebay stores, just for a small repair of the CF slot which Canon Australia refused to repair even he agreed to pay the bills. one single fare by FedEx costs him around AU$150.00 + $68.00 for Insurance, and he had to pay a round trip ticket for its holiday.

So do your math when thinking of buying stuffs.
