Need to vent a littleHello from Thailand. Will post more when I get back. I have CDs and CDs of photos to bring back.
A bit frastracted by a bit of bad/ good luck I had yesterday/today. Found out a couple of weeks ago there was a fashion show "ELLE" happening in Bangkok so made my way there. Heaps and heaps of photogs with equipment and lenses in numbers I haven't seen before. Turns out you can come in for free but no photos unless you are PRESS. So tried my luck and decided to claim I was from press - the worst case I won't be let in. I tried and they asked for a business card (damn should have made one up before my travels ). So I gave up took my tripod and went to a near by bridge to take some photos. Then suddenly I get approached by this guy with an American accent asking me to come to the ELLE event to take some photos as they want some o/s coverage. I nearly dropped dead. I told him I've been trying to get in for 2 days with no luck and I'ma amature but would love to try he goes "let's go try your fashion photography skills". He asked me if I had a business card I said only from my 'real' job which has 'chemist' written on it. He goes "Lets see what it looks like". I showed him and he goes "yeah, not too good', but let see what we can do 'in Thailand if you are trying hard enough you will eventually achieve it' he said. So we went to the press booth and he goes to the manager "Can we get this guy from Australia get in to take some photos for a local newspaper?" and shows my card to them. The manager goes 'normally it would be fine, but today a member or Royal family is here so security level is high. DAMN!!! Missed out. Today I came again but again a Royal family member was there. Tomorrow is the last day but I have other comittements. So bad luck overall but I felt very lucky for a few minutes when that guy approached me. A trade off is that I got to see the Thai Princess (no photo - sorry) coming out from the event. Cheers Will post when get back. Alex
