Couple of suggestions.. Request for comments

Postby gleff on Wed Nov 16, 2005 6:20 pm

I thought i'd throw a couple of suggestions in the hat for discussion. These are just suggestions for the board, and wiki.

1. A new sub section called Software Reviews. I put my review in the Equipment review, but technically, it's not equipment, so I thought a section on Software Reviews would make more sense. This doesn't have to be Software Reviews, but maybe even a more general term such as Software so anything relating to software can be placed in it. Eg. discussions about software in general, reviews, and the like.

2. For the wiki, perhaps we can have a section dedicated to the draconian photo bans that seem to be a regular occurance. We can post links to news items, have polls, forums, Links to related information etc. As this builds, we'll have a bit of an archive of information, and it can even be used as an educational tool to try and help our cause. If it's a wealth of information, perhaps the media, and general populace will get their paranoia numbed down. The section can also contain relavent copyright laws and information we've collected over time which assists us photographers. A sort of one stop shop for important information relating to the banning of photography.

What do other people think?

Good suggestions Geoff, you may not have noticed but we recently reduced the number of sections on the front as front page real estate is in short supply. I personally feel there is not that much software and it can be lumped in with equipment.

Keep the ideas coming :D

Geoff,

What Glen said regarding the forum sections. We're trying to reduce, rather than increase, the number of sections. :)

Regarding the Wiki, I think it's a good idea, and you're welcome to do this.

Please let me know by PM if you're agreeable, and I'll add you as a user to the Wiki.

Clutter reduction suggestion: combining for sale and bargains sections. Since they both serve the same purpose (members looking for cheap photographic related purchases with find it there), and neither get enough traffic to really interfere with the functions of the other (scrolling half way down the page of either forum and you're already 2 months out of date).

And it seems either of those forums, plus the general discussions - are currently being used for posting links to external ebay sales for the potential interest of others, sew Y knot combine them into 1 spot?!

Software could go under 'Computers, IT and the Web', bit radical I know but my two cents worth.
