Ahoy hoy,

Now that I'm part of the 70-200mm VR club, thanks to Xerubus, just wondering if the lens draws power from the camera, and if it does, does it make a difference to the battery life. I'm thinking of getting a battery grip for the D70 (not for the vertical shutter option ) in case the lens uses to much power.

Yes, the lens draws power but unnoticeable.
You don't need to have the battery grip, just wasting your money, keep couple spares, they will do the job.
Many members have the 70-200VR but none of them complaining about the battery.

I'm with Birdy on this. I used the 70-200VR almost constantly over a period of 6 or so hours when I sailed on the tall ships earlier this year and used 1 and a bit batteries.

While on holiday I used either the 24-120 VR or the 70-200 VR and never experienced a problem. When Stubbsy says he used a battery and a bit he must have taken over 1000 shots.

Of course I took over 1,000 shots I have an itchy trigger finger. I rarely take less than 300 in an outing. Plus I chimp a lot which drains the batteries too.

power consumption of the VR lens ?
Nothing to worry about.
As Stubbsy said, a whole day shooting like on the tall ships was no problem.
I was there with the VR and didn't change my battery.

thanks for the prompt reply folks. I guess it's not an issue I have to wrry about. I was going to get hold of a battery grip mainly because the D70 feels a bit small in my paw. I might hold off and put the dollars into my D200 fund instead.
